MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Jeremy Ingram of North Carolina Central was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Hakeem Baxter, of Maryland Eastern Shore, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Hampton’s Du’Vaughn Maxwell was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Ingram (G, 6-3, 175, Sr., Charlotte, N.C.) averaged 31.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in three wins last week for the Eagles.  The senior guard recorded back-to-back 29-point scoring performances against Campbell and the school’s historic win over N.C. State.  He registered a career-high 36 points, hitting 18-of-25 free-throws, in the Eagles’ 76-70 overtime win over Appalachian State. 

Baxter (G, 6-2, 170, Fr., Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 22 points, knocking down 12-of-15 shots behind the charity stripe, with seven boards and two assists in a win against Mount St. Mary’s. 

Maxwell (F, 6-7, 215, Sr., Manhattan, N.Y.) finished the week with 19 rebounds, five blocks and six steals in two non-conference games last week.  He recorded 14 boards, two blocks and two steals against Missouri State.  Offensively he added 22 points, shooting 10-of-22 from the field, in the two games. 

Other Top Performances

Jaime Adams (FAMU) registered 22 points, hitting 3-of-5 from long range, against Jacksonville.

James Daniels (Howard) poured in a game-high 25 points, with five rebounds and four assists against Houston. 

Kendall Gray (DSU) scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots against George Washington.

Malcolm Hawkins (NSU) posted back-to-back 16-point scoring performances, with 11 total rebounds and six assists, against East Carolina and UNC-Asheville. 

Prince Okoroh (Howard) finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five steals against Houston. 

Deron Powers (Hampton) averaged 21.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a pair of non-conference games last week against Quinnipiac and Missouri State.
