NORFOLK, Va., November 25, 2013 – Delaware State forward Tierra Hawkins was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Hampton’s Malia Tate-DeFreitas earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Alexis Udoji of Maryland Eastern Shore was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Hawkins (F, 6-2, Jr., Clinton, Md.) led the Lady Hornets to a 1-1 mark last week, including an 87-71 victory over Albany. Hawkins became the 15th player in DSU history to score 1,000 career points as she tied a career-high in points (30) and rebounds (15) against Wilmington. Hawkins shot 13-of-20 from the field and added two blocks and one steal in the loss against Wilmington. She also scored 29 points with five rebounds, three blocks and three steals against Albany. For the week, Hawkins averaged 29.5 points, shooting 66-percent from the field (25-of-38), with 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals.
Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, Fr., Harrisburg, Pa.) registered 29 points and grabbed five rebounds against Texas State. She was 15-of-41 (37-percent) from the field and 11-of-12 (92-percent) from the foul line. Tate-DeFreitas averaged 24.0 points, 6.0, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in two games.
Udoji (F/C, 6-4, So., Randolph, Md.) paced the Lady Hawks defense with 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a 93-91 overtime win over George Mason. Offensively, Udoji averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in a pair of non-conference games.

Raven Bankston (DSU) set a career-high in points (29) and made 3-pointers (3) against Albany.
Tracey Carrington (MSU) tallied a game-high 30 points, eight rebounds and four steals against Wesley.
Rae Corbo (NSU) registered her fourth double-figure scoring game of the season with 22 points against UNC-Greensboro and 14 against Wofford.
Racquel Davis (NCCU) totaled 25 rebounds, 19 points, five blocks and four steals against South Florida and UNC Asheville.
Jessica Freeman (NCCU) scored a season-high 24 points and dished out six assists against UNC-Asheville.
Rachel Gordon (NSU) grabbed 15 rebounds and added six points, three blocks and one steal against Wofford.
Jasmine Grice (FAMU) led the team in scoring for the fifth time this season with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Webber International.
Deanna Harmon (DSU) total 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals in games against Wilmington and Albany.
Dominique Harper (NSU) recorded eight points, two assists, one rebound and one blocked shot in 23 minutes against UNC-Greensboro.
Ivy Harrington (MSU) averaged 11 points, four steals and three rebounds to help the Lady Bears to a 1-1 week.
Te’Shya Heslip (Howard) registered 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals in games against Loyola and NJIT.
Tracy King (NCAT) tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Lady Aggies to their fifth straight win.
Jessica Long (UMES) finished with 27 points, nine assists and sank the game-winning shot against George Mason in overtime.
Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) registered a pair of 20-plus point games, including 21 points, five rebounds and one assist, against Stetson.
Kourtney Williams (SCSU) dropped in 26 points with six rebounds and shot 86 percent (6-of-7) from the free-throw line against USC Upstate.
