BASON PARK, Fla. - Webber International scored 44 second-half points as the Florida A&M Women’s Basketball team escaped with a 65-57 win over the Lady Warriors, here Friday night at Sabbagh Athletic Center.
With the win, the Lady Rattlers now have won three straight as Jasmine Grice recorded her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead FAMU, whereas Kimberly Sparkman finished with 15 points to rounds out the cast of double-digit performers.
WIU (2-3) had three Lady Warriors to score in double-figure as Yesenia Lora led the team in scoring with 15, followed by Shakeria Wilson with 14 and Sarah Dilenonardo with 12 points respectively. Lora led the Lady Warriors on the boards with six.
Jasmine Singleton gave the Lady Warriors a 9-6 lead with her made field goal with 11:29 to go in the first.
Sparkman made the score 12-11 in favor of the Lady Rattlers with her made field goal with 9:45 left in the half.
The Lady Rattlers would end the first half with a 24-4 run as they would go into the break with a 34-13 lead.
FAMU finished the first half shooting 38.9 percent (14-of-36), whereas WIU shot 18.5 percent (5-of-27).
The Lady Rattlers opened up the second half with a 6-3 run to take a 41-18 lead capped off by a Sparkman three pointers with 16:30 to in the game.
WIU would use a 28-12 run to cut the Lady Rattlers lead to 53-45 with 6:16 left in the game. The Lady Warriors would then cut FAMU’s lead to 60-57 with 2:42 to go in game on a Dileonardo three pointer, capping a 13-7 run by WIU.
That would be closes as WIU would get as the Lady Rattlers scored the final five points of the contest for the 65-57 finale.
FAMU will return to action on Friday, Nov. 29 as they will take on Eastern Kentucky in their first game of the University of Southern Mississippi Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss.
