Hawkins Eclipses 1,000 Career Points as DSU Defeats Wilmington
DOVER, Del. – Playing in front of its home crowd for the first time this season, the Delaware State women’s basketball team (1-2) defeated in-state foe Wilmington (0-2) Wednesday evening, 86-73, behind forward Tierra Hawkins tying a career-high in points (30) and rebounds (15).
With this scoring output, the junior out of Clinton, Md. tallied 1,000 career points to become the 15th player in team history to reach this milestone. Coming in, Hawkins needed two points to accomplish this feat, which occurred on DSU’s first bucket of the game.
Raven Bankston, meanwhile, tallied 17 points for the second straight game, despite going 6-for-15 (.400) from the field, whereas her sister poured in a season-high 14 points (3-for-18) and dished out a game-high five assists.
Deanna Harmon finished the night with 10 (4-for-5) points, eight rebounds and a game-high three steals.
Coming up, the Lady Hornets will hit the road for back-to-back games in the state of New York, beginning with Albany on Sunday (2 p.m.), followed by Manhattan on Tuesday (4 p.m.).

Women’s Basketball Picks Up First Win; Downs Wesley, 90-55
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Tracey Carrington scored a game-high 30 points to lead four Lady Bears starters in double figures in scoring to lead Morgan State to a 90-55 non-conference victory over Division III Wesley at Hill Field House. Carrington shot 12-of-23 from the floor and had a game-high eight rebounds to help the Lady Bears to their first win of the season.
Danielle Forrest finished with 16 points, Ivy Harrington contributed 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Gabriella Bennett added 10 points in the win.
Wednesday evening’s contest against Wesley was a far cry from last season’s exhibition game against the Wolverines. Last year the Lady Bears cruised to a 109-22 victory over Wesley in exhibition play, holding the guests to just 10 points at halftime.
Morgan State shot 34-of-67 (50.7 %) from the field, including 4-of-15 (26.7 %) from three-point range with Forrest accounting for all four three-pointers.
Wesley shot 19-of-43 from the field for 44.2 % and 4-of-10 from the three-point arc for the game.
Morgan State returns to action on Monday, Nov. 25, when it travels to Stony Brook, N.Y. to take on the Seawolves of Stony Brook. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Late run lifts UNC Greensboro past Norfolk State
NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State could not withstand a furious rally the last four minutes of the game and fell to UNCG, 73-66, Wednesday night at Joseph Echols Hall.
NSU fell to 1-2 overall while UNCG improved to 2-2.
Redshirt junior Rae Corbo led NSU with 22 points, four assists and two steals. She shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field and was perfect from the free throw line (6-of-6).

Davis earns second double-double as NCCU falls to USF
TAMPA, Fla. – Junior transfer Racquel Davis earned her second double-double of the season as the North Carolina Central University women’s basketball dropped a 93-35 decision to the University of South Florida Bulls on Wednesday, Nov. 20 inside the Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla.
Davis finished with a game-high 14 rebounds and team-high ten points for the Lady Eagles, shooting 2-of-14 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line, blocked three shots and collected one steal and assist.
In addition to Davis, Khyra Conerly contributed her third-straight seven-point performance, Tiffany Gary added six points and nine boards and Tia Clement shot 2-of-4 from three-point land accumulating another six points for NCCU.
The Bulls were led by Courtney Williams who scored a game-high 23 points, shot 10-of-12 from the field, 1-of-1 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
As a team the Lady Eagles shot 13-of-60 from the field, 2-of-15 from the three, 7-of-9 from the free throw line, collected 41 rebounds, seven steals and eight blocks.
NCCU continues road action on Saturday, Nov. 23 as the Lady Eagles travel to Asheville, N.C., to take on the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville at 2 p.m.

Lady Pirates suffer first loss at LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Hampton University women’s basketball team lost its first game of the 2013-14 season on Wednesday night, as No. 15/18 LSU beat the Lady Pirates 73-54 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Lady Pirates fell to 2-1 on the season.
Senior guard Nicole Hamilton led the way with a career-high 27 points – 21 of which came in the second half – on 10-for-19 shooting. Freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas added 19 points and seven rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore forward Brielle Ward had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Shanece McKinney, Theresa Plaisance, and Jasmine Rhodes each led LSU with 14 points.
The Lady Pirates will head to San Marcos, Texas on Saturday to take on Texas State at 2 p.m.

Maryland Eastern Shore falls on the road to Syracuse
SYRACUSE, NY. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) lost to Syracuse University, 113-42, at the Carrier Dome. With the loss, the Lady Hawks fell to 1-3 overall while the Orange remained undefeated, 4-0.
Nine Lady Hawks scored, led by sophomore Alexis Udoji. Udoji led the Lady Hawks with 10 points, five boards, and two blocks. Senior Shanyce Stewart had a team-high six rebounds, including three offensive boards, while junior Jessica Long chipped in nine points in the loss.
For Syracuse, four players scored double-figure points, led by Brianna Butler (23). Brittney Sykes tallied 19 points and a game-high seven boards while La'Shay Taft and Taylor Ford scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
This Saturday (11/23), UMES returns home to host George Mason University at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. Tip-off is 2:00 p.m.
