MEAC Announces Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., November 18, 2013 – Florida A&M guard Jasmine Grice was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Howard’s Te’Shya Heslip earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Rachel Gordon of Norfolk State earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Grice (Guard, 5-10, Grad., Quincy, Fla.) totaled 78 points, 16 rebounds, 14 steals, nine assists and shot 37 percent (25-of-68) from the field in games against Troy, Southern and Tennessee State. Grice scored a season-high 33 points against Troy, which marked the fifth time in her career that she scored 30-plus in a game.

Heslip (Guard, 5-5, Fr., Dumfries, Va.) scored a career-high 27 points and dished out four assists against Jackson State. She was 11-of-22 (50 percent) from the field and averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games.

Gordon (Forward, 6-0, Sr., Woodbridge, Va.) recorded her first double-double of the season as she finished with 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds against Radford. Gordon was 8-of-10 from the floor and added one block in 37 minutes for the Spartans.

Other Top Performers: 

 Raven Bankston (DSU) led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game with 17 points against No. 25 Vanderbilt.

Alyssa Bennett (Hampton) set a career-high in points (25) and tied her career high in field goals made (11) against Southern Miss.

Tracey Carrington (MSU) scored a career and game-high 34 points and hit 15-of-17 from the free-throw line against Lincoln (Pa.).

Christina Carter (NCAT) totaled 44 points and 14 assists against Georgia State and Stetson to lift the Aggies to consecutive wins at the Preseason WNIT.

Shakeyia Colyer (BCU) aided the Lady Wildcats’ defense with 12 rebounds (nine defensively) against Florida Gulf Coast and St. Thomas.

Jamie Foreman (FAMU) registered three double-digit rebound games, including a season-high 15 against Troy.

Jessica Freeman (NCCU) averaged 18 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds in a pair of non-conference contests.

Tiffany Gary (NCCU) registered 12 rebounds and 10 points, to go along with three blocks, against Coastal Carolina.

Victoria Gonzalez (Howard) grabbed nine rebounds in a pair of games, including six boards, to go along with 17 points against NJIT.

Deanna Harmon (DSU) finished with 15 points, six rebounds and a team-high four steals against No. 25 Vanderbilt.

Dominique Harper (NSU) recorded six points, four rebounds, two steals and one block against Radford.

Ivy Harrington (MSU) totaled 14 points, six rebounds and two steals in her collegiate debut against Lincoln (Pa.)

Tierra Hawkins (DSU) recorded her first double-double of 14 rebounds and 12 points against No. 25 Vanderbilt.

Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) poured in 16 points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists against Charleston Southern.

Morgan Jones (NCCU) added six points, on 2-of-3 on 3-pointers, in a win against Presbyterian.

Ezinne Kalu (SSU) finished with 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal against Charleston Southern.

Tracy King (NCAT) led the Aggies in rebounds against Stetson with seven, grabbing five on the defensive end.

Jessica Long (UMES) registered 39 points, dished out 10 assists, and shot 56-percent (15-of-27) against American and UMBC.

Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) scored 22 points and added four rebounds in 34 minutes against St. Thomas.

Kailyn Williams (BCU) finished with eight points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots against St. Thomas.

Alexis Udoji (UMES) totaled 21 rebounds, eight blocks, seven steals and one assist in games against American and UMBC.
