HAMPTON ADVANCES TO MEAC FINAL WITH WIN OVER HOWARD

BALTIMORE, Md. --- Hampton advanced to the championship match of the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball tournament with a 3-1 victory over Howard at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.

The Lady Pirates (18-10), who will be making their first-ever appearance in the MEAC Championship match, will meet Coppin State in the MEAC Championship.

Vendula Strakova led Hampton with 17 kills, nine service aces and seven digs. Sonja Maksimovic added 11 kills, while Bibiany Fonseca had 35 assists.

Assata Conway paced the Lady Bison with 10 kills and a .421 hitting percentage while Katherine Broussard logged nine kills and seven digs. Stephanie Shultis had 29 of the team's 35 assists and Allyson Lods had a game high 12 digs.

The Lady Bison concluded the season with a 21-11 overall record, the best school mark since Howard's 23-11 season in 1995 and their quarterfinals victory was HU's first since 2004.

 

COPPIN STATE ADVANCES TO FIRST-EVER MEAC CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

BALTIMORE, Md. –- Coppin State advanced to its first-ever championship match of the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball tournament with a 3-2 win over Florida A&M at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.

Cindy Okpegbue registered a career-high 30 kills to pace the Lady Eagles (15-15). Ariel Richard finished with 17 kills, while Chelsee Sauni dished out a career-high 57 assists. Gabrielle Otero chipped in with 30 digs as Coppin State hit .283 in the five-set match.

Yeisha Arcia led three Lady Rattlers with 22 kills and added a team-high 13 digs. Katherine Huanec and Ginna Lopez-Chavez finished with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Diana Gonzalez chipped in with 57 digs as Florida A&M concluded the season with a 15-7 overall record.
