MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., November 11, 2013 – South Carolina State senior Desire Waller was selected as the Mid-Eastern Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week. Victoria Ferguson, also of SCSU, earned Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

Waller (OH, 6-1, Sr., Houston, Texas) averaged 22 kills and seven digs in matches against North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T. She notched 26 kills, with a .465 hitting percentage and seven digs against N.C.A&T.

Ferguson (L, 5-7, Fr., Calhoun, Ga.) totaled 29 digs, six aces and five assists in matches against N.C. Central and N.C.A&T. She picked up a match-high 21 digs to aid the Lady Bulldogs the fourth spot in the south division.

Other Top Performers: 

Dominique Cleggett (Howard) notched 12 kills, including nine against Coppin State.

Erika Devaughn (FAMU) recorded a season-high 14 kills in the Lady Rattlers win over Bethune-Cookman.

Goda Jankauskaite (NSU) finished with 39 kills, six blocks, one assist and one dig in matches against American, Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.

Alex Irizarry (NSU) recorded 16 digs, 10 assists and eight aces in three matches.

Haley Robinson (UMES) registered 16 kills, including nine against Hampton.

 

Kalin Russell (NCCU) tied a career-high 18 kills against Savannah State.

Stephanie Shultis (Howard) finished with 53 assists and 13 kills in matches against Morgan State and Coppin State.

Zuri Smith (MSU) recorded a match-high 14 kills, while hitting .360, and added two blocks against Howard.

Vendula Strakova (Hampton) registered 36 kills, 14 digs and four aces in matches against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.
