Smith Scores Career-High 21 as Eagles Top Oregon State
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Sophomore Sterling Smith scored a career-high 21 points, including a big three-point basket with under a minute to play, lifting Coppin State to a 78-73 victory over Oregon State as the Eagles recorded their first-ever win against a Pac-12 opponent.
After Oregon State had trimmed an eight-point Coppin State lead to just two with 1:10 to play in the game, Smith drilled a three-pointer giving the Eagles a 73-68 lead with 42 seconds remaining.
A layup by Victor Robbins cut the lead to 73-70 with 27 seconds left, but Daquan Brickhouse made four consecutive free throws to increase the lead to 77-70 with 9 seconds left in the contest.
Robbins made a three-pointer with 4 seconds left, but Brickhouse sealed the victory by making one of two free throws with 1 second to play.
Coppin State entered the game having lost all 16 previous meetings with members of the Pac-12 Conference, including a season-opening loss to California on Friday, before registering its breakthrough victory on Sunday.
Smith was 8-of-12 from the floor and made 4-of-7 three-point attempts to top his previous career high of 16 he set against California.

Hill, Daniel Combine to Lead Howard To win Over Gwynedd
Washington, DC--Keon Hill came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points and James Daniel added 16 to lead Howard University to an 83-66 win over Gwynedd Mercy College (0-1) in a non-conference men's game at Burr Gymnasium.
Hill and Daniel combined to do their damage from long range. First it was Daniel, a 5-11 freshman from Hampton, VA who got the Bison started as he connected on 3 of 6 from the three-point arc. Daniel was coming off a 28-point performance on Friday against Washington College in the season opener.
Hill, who played sparingly in the first game, entered the game and had an immediate impact. The 5-9 red-shirt freshman guard from Largo, MD, connected on 5 of 8 from beyond the arc as the Bison (2-0) build a 50-36 lead at the halftime.
Equally important in the win was the play of the frontcourt that proved to be factor with its inside presence. Howard blocked 10 shots and altered several others against the Griffins, who missed 17 of 24 from the field and 1 of 10 from three-point range.
