VCU Sweeps Norfolk State in mid-week match

RICHMOND, Va. – Kalah Jones and Romana Kriskova combined for 23 kills, and the VCU defense had 14 blocks in a 3-0 victory over the Norfolk State volleyball team Tuesday night in a non-conference match at the Siegel Center.

Sophomore Angie Darcus tallied 12 kills and hit .318 for the Spartans, but NSU’s offense attacked at a -.028 clip for the match. The Spartans did make a go of it in the third set, dropping the final set by a 26-24 margin after VCU won the first two, 25-11 and 25-16.

Janay Frazier finished with six kills in the match, while redshirt junior Noelle Eagles led all players with 14 digs.

Janelle Sykes had seven blocks, and Nora Reed added six for the Rams. Kriskova led VCU with nine digs to go with three blocks.

North Carolina A&T drops home contest to Elon

GREENSBORO – A low hitting performance by the North Carolina A&T volleyball team caused it to drop a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-17) decision Elon in a non-conference match, Tuesday evening at Moore Gymnasium.

The Aggies (2-18 overall) were plagued with errors which helped the Phoenix improve to 11-9 overall. Elon recorded seven errors and had an attacking percentage of .368.

Freshman Liz Martino finished with a game-high 17 assists. Sophomore Aleena McDaniel led A&T with eight kills and freshman Jillian Nobles added six. Sophomore Brooke Stamnes recorded eight digs.
