MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., October 7, 2013 – Hampton University junior Vendula Strakova was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week. Bethune-Cookman freshman Alexas Thomas earned Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

Strakova (RS, 6-0, Jr., Brno, Czech Republic) finished with 49 kills, 20 digs and hit .483 in three matches for the Lady Pirates. She chipped in 16 kills and 11 digs in a victory over Coppin State.

Thomas (S, 5-3, Fr., Cocoa, Fla.) totaled 102 assists and five digs for the Lady Wildcats. She set a Bethune-Cookman record for assists (48) in a three-set match against North Carolina A&T.

notched 27 kills and 15 digs as the Lady Rattlers defeated North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T

Katherine Broussard (Howard) registered 34 kills and 32 digs in three matches, including 11 kills and 19 digs in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Goda Jankauskaite (NSU) registered 24 kills in a five-set victory over Morgan State.

Nicole Malave (CSU) notched a double-double with a career-high 14 kills and 12 digs in a victory over Maryland Eastern Shore

Haley McClure (MSU) recorded 14 kills, four blocks, and four digs in a pair of matches, including adding seven kills, a block and two digs in a win over Delaware State.

Aleena McDaniel (NCAT) finished with 15 kills and nine digs against Bethune-Cookman, and added 11 kills at Florida A&M.

Delicia Pierre (B-CU) totaled 28 kills and 25 digs in three matches, including a career-high 14 digs, against North Carolina Central.

Sonia Rosales (UMES) had back-to-back double-digit assists of 44 and 34 against Howard and Coppin State, respectively.

Zuri Smith (MSU) totaled 12 kills and six blocks in a loss at Norfolk State, and hit .400 with eight kills and four blocks in a win over Delaware State.

Desire Waller (SCSU) finished with 17 kills and five digs in a loss against Gardner-Webb.
