GREENVILLE, N.C. – Savannah State volleyball concluded a two-game road trip weekend with a visit to Conference USA foe East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina on Saturday. They fell to the Lady Pirates in straight sets, 25-12, 25-9 and 25-15.
For the second straight game, sophomore Justice Dilworth led the Lady Tigers in offense, with four kills. Alexis Washington led the Lady Tigers in digs with 12. Christian Lyle had two blocks and leads the team in blocks this season with 32.
The home team was led by Nicole Willis, who recorded nine kills, nine digs and three service aces. Willis led the field in hitting percentage (.348).
ECU used a balanced attack in the opening set and a .233 hitting percentage to take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-12 game win. Bianca Brochu and Christian Lyle each had two kills and a block in the game for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers struggled in the second set, managing only nine points as Willis racked up four kills to lead the Lady Pirates to a 25-9 win and a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, SSU again struggled early as ECU jumped out to an 11-4 lead behind a 7-0 run.
Late in the set, SSU trailed by ten, 17-7. Brochu sparked a run for the Lady Tigers with a service ace. The 4-0 run for the Lady Tigers was capped by an ECU error, cutting the home team’s lead to 17-11.
The SSU offensive spurt was short lived as the Lady Pirates held on for a 25-15 game win, and their eighth match win of the season.
