NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Morgan State graduate student Ashley Seymour was selected as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) National Division I Athlete of the Week, based on her performance during last weekend’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championships.

This is the first time a Morgan State athlete has been selected since the award started.

A native of Washington, D.C., Seymour was a part of Morgan State history last weekend, as she became the program’s first individual champion, finishing in a time of 18:10.00.

Seymour, who also garnered All-MEAC team honors, helped to lead the Lady Bears to a second-place finish, falling just five points shy of defending champion Florida A&M. The second-place finish was another first for the program, as its highest MEAC championship mark.
