MEAC Men?s And Women?s Cross Country Championships Set For October 26

NORFOLK, Va., October 24, 2013 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2013 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 26 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Princess Anne, Md.

The championships will begin with the women’s five-kilometer race at 9:45 a.m., followed by the men’s eight-kilometer race at 10:30 a.m. For complete men’s and women’s cross country championship information, visit Championship Central at www.MEACSports.com

The defending MEAC men’s champion Florida A&M Rattlers, along with Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State, have won two meets this season. Florida A&M’s Elias Chesire, who won the men’s individual title last season, leads the MEAC on an 8K course with a time of 24:39.10 at the Florida State Invitational. Maryland Eastern Shore is led by Khalil Rmidi, who turned in a season-best time of 27:39.13 at the Cappy Anderson Invitational. Damtew Adnew of Norfolk State paces the Spartans as he finished with a season-best time of 26:18.14 at the Cappy Anderson Invitational.

On the women’s side, Morgan State looks to claim the team title as the Lady Bears won three meets. Hampton, seeking to win its third championship in four years, has earned back-to-back first-place finishes during the last two weeks of the season. Florida A&M, the defending MEAC women's champions, also earned a pair of first-place finishes this season.

Morgan State’s Ashley Seymour holds the top time in the MEAC on a 5K course this season with a time of 17:53.27 at the Delaware State Hornet Invitational.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, MEAC student-athletes will wear pink racing bibs, while the head coaches will wear pink ribbon pins during the competition. The MEAC encourages fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The 2013 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are free and open to the public.
