NCCU's trio advances to 2nd round at ITA Regionals

CARY, N.C. – Three North Carolina Central University men’s tennis student-athletes advanced to second round action during the 2013 ITA Men’s Regionals, Oct. 17-21, at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

During day one, Stephan Charles-Donatien and Danill Gerasimov each advanced to the second round of singles competition. For the first time in school history Charles-Donatien defeated a University of North Carolina opponent knocking off Connor Daly (6-4, 7-5), while Gerasimov moved on to round two after defeating University of South Carolina’s Ben Barnette (3-6, 6-3, 6-3).

In doubles action, Gerasimov and William East earned spots in the second round after defeating the UNC Greensboro duo of Gaston Murray and Cameron Smith (8-6).

Charles-Donatien and Tamina Kienka also competed in doubles play for the Eagles falling to the Duke twosome of TJ Pura and Bruno Semenzato (8-1), while Fabrice George and Jamal Hoyte fell to the Clemson duo of Alejandro Bueno and Fernando Sanchez (8-1).

Also in singles action, East fell to UNCG’s Ahmet Sarioglu (7-6 (4), 6-3), George dropped a singles match to UNC Wilmington’s Christian Van Der Burgh (6-1, 6-0), Hoyte was defeated by USC’s Chip Cox (6-1, 6-1) and Kienka dropped a match to USC’s Thiago Pinheiro (6-0, 6-0).
