MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., October 21, 2013 – Hampton junior Vendula Strakova was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week. Howard freshman Katherine Broussard earned Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.

Strakova (RS, 6-0, Jr., Brno, Czech Republic) registered 35 kills, 21 digs, seven assists, five blocks and three aces in matches against Delaware State and Norfolk State. She recorded her 12th double-double with 24 kills and 13 digs in a five-set win over DSU.

Broussard (OH, 5-7, Fr., Harvey, La.) finished with 51 kills, 33 digs and seven assists in three matches. She notched a season-high 27 kills and 13 digs in a five-set loss against Bucknell.

Other Top Performers: 

Janay Frazier (NSU) tallied 16 kills and six digs, while hitting .536, in a five-set win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Victoria Ferguson (SCSU) recorded 15 digs and a pair of assists in a win over Alabama A&M.

Alyse Lewis (SCSU) finished with 13 kills and hit .812 in a victory over Alabama A&M.

Diara Lewis (UMES) totaled 22 kills, 12 digs, two assists and two aces against Norfolk State and Delaware State.

Haley Robinson (UMES) registered 15 kills, 11 blocks, two digs and one assist in a pair of matches against Norfolk State and Delaware State.

Brooke Stamnes (NCAT) led the Aggies in kills (20), averaging 2.86 per set, in a pair of non-conference losses to Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville.
