KENNER, La. – No. 20 Bethune-Cookman bowling finished up the second day at the AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the AMF All Star Lanes. The tournament ends on Sunday, and is hosted by Tulane University.
Bethune-Cookman took part in the team bowling portion of the tournament Saturday, after going 3-2 in Baker games on Friday. The Wildcats went 3-2 in team play, finishing in sixth place overall heading into Sunday’s tournament bracket. B-CU enters Sunday with a 6-4 overall record on the weekend.
The Cats opened the day with three-straight wins against Tulane (1162-1070), Stephen F. Austin (990-895) and Florida A&M (869-792), respectively. They suffered a tough 880-861 setback in their fourth contest against Louisiana Tech, then falling to Sam Houston State, 922-848.
Freshman Ivory Miles strung together two (2) 200-point games, while Krysta Coleman registered a trio of 200 contests to begin the day. Felicia Baker also had a 200 game to start the day against Tulane.
The tournament concludes Sunday with a tournament at 8:30 a.m. CT. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion. The 11 teams will be seeded based on the performance on Friday and Saturday.
The three-day AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational features 11 schools, including four nationally ranked programs. Sam Houston State, last year's tournament winner, returns to defend their title and is ranked sixth in the in the preseason National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, while Stephen F. Austin, Prairie View A&M and Bethune-Cookman also open the season ranked, ninth, 19th and 20th respectively.
In addition to those four schools, the field includes Louisiana Tech, Florida A&M, Alabama State, Texas Southern, Jackson State and the Green Wave.
