Cross Country Recap: October 19

Pirates place sixth at Christopher Newport Invitational
YORKTOWN, Va. – The Hampton University men’s cross country team finished sixth at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion in their final regular-season meet.
 
The Pirates finished with 157 points. William & Mary won the team title with 33 points.
 
Senior Je’Von Hutchison paced the Pirates with a 27:37.00 to finish 24th, while freshman Rayon Black (Kingston, Jamaica) was 27th with a 28:05.70 and junior Edose Ibadin ran a 28:34.10 to finish 31st.
 
Freshman Warren Hill was 36th with a 29:31.90, and junior Ramon Kelly ran a 30:32.00 to come in 39th. Sophomore Quentin Morales-Perryman ran a 31:03.50 to finish 41st, while sophomore Andrae Green was 42nd with a 31:47.10.
 
Mohamed Adam of VCU turned in the top time with a 25:35.70.
 
Four Lady Pirates competed in the 3K open race on Saturday, with the rest of the team resting before the MEAC Championships. Sophomore Kaylor Murray paced the Lady Pirates with an 11:40.20 to finish ninth among female runners.
 
Junior Malekah Holland was 17th with a 12:03.80, while freshman Tandeka Nunn ran a 12:11.70 to come in 20th.
 
Freshman Kanitra Hatton ran a 13:47.20 to finish 24th.

NSU takes third at Christopher Newport Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Damtew Adnew led all NSU runners to help the Spartans finish third at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday.

Adnew finished seventh with a season-best time of 26:10.50. Freshman Sammy Kiptoo placed eighth with a running time of 26:14.50.

Rounding out the top 30 finishes for NSU were senior Kipchirchir Kiptoo (26:43.90), redshirt freshmen Marquis Worsley (27:47.60) and William Brown Jr. (28:26.90), and sophomore Joshua Carino (28:28.10). They finished 15th, 25th, 29th and 30th, respectively.

Sophomore Juliun May placed 38th with a time of 29:59.20 and freshman Michael Evans finished 40th with a time of 30:39.10.

The Spartans finished with 84 points behind William & Mary (33) and VCU (36). North Carolina A&T (89) placed fourth, Mount St. Mary’s (133) finished fifth and Hampton (157) was sixth.
