Jimenez get’s 1,000 career dig in loss to Florida Gulf Coast

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jennifer Jimenez became the first Bethune-Cookman player in program history to register 1,000 career digs Tuesday in the Lady Cats’ 3-0 (25-13, 25-12,25-21) loss to Florida Gulf Coast in Historic Moore Gymansium.

The senior from Merritt Island, Fla., who is already B-CU’s all-time digs leader, reached 1,000 with her third dig in the first set. She finished with 13.

Destiny Hudson led B-CU (2-16) with eight kills, followed by Rhea Simon and Delicia Pierre with five each.  Simon added four blocks.

Jessica Barnes led FGCU (5-10) with 15 kills and Christine Pinder posted 11.

SC State Falls to Gardner-Webb in a Non-Conference Volleyball Match

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Senior Desire Waller put down a game-high 17 kills (.375 hitting percentage) as South Carolina State fell to Gardner-Webb, 3-0, (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) in a non-conference volleyball match.  

Alyse Lewis put down five kills with two solo blocks and freshman Melanie Williams had 27 set assists for the Lady Bulldogs, who dropped to 1-15 overall.  Despite the loss, SC State out-blocked Gardner-Webb by one, 6-5. 

Gardner-Webb (7-10) was led by Erin Anderson and Emily Holte who both recorded nine kills.  Anderson also had a game-high nine digs on the night.

Brown collects double-double as Eagles drop heartbreaker to Radford

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University volleyball junior Da’Sha Brown collected her season-first hit/dig double-double during the Eagles heartbreaking final non-conference five-set loss to the Radford University Highlanders 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-7, 15-11) on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Durham, N.C.

Brown finished the contest with 10 kills, fourteen kills, one service and one block assist.
 
Senior Kalin Russell led NCCU's offense with a team-high fourteen kills while also contributing nine digs, two service aces and a game-high seven blocks. Junior Ashley McCarth also added to the offense for the Eagles with 10 kills, eight digs, one service ace and four blocks.
 
Contributing to the offensive success was junior setter Alice Genna who collected a team-high 36 assists along with 11 digs, one service ace and four blocks.
 
For the second straight match, rookie Kelsey Murphy led on the defensive end for the Eagles collecting a team-high 15 digs.
