Strakova continues to lead nation in points, kills

HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University junior rightside Vendula Strakova continues to have a historic season, and as of the updated NCAA Division I statistics released on Monday, she still leads the nation in points and kills.

Strakova is averaging 6.63 points per set and 5.73 kills per set following Hampton’s straight-set win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday, and her 0.52 aces per set are not only tops in the MEAC, but they rank her ninth in the nation.

She had 19 kills on Sunday, and the four-time MEAC Player of the Week has recorded double-digit kills in every match so far this season.

Junior middle blocker Marija Kocevska is 32nd in the nation – and fourth in the MEAC – in aces, averaging 0.42 per set. She had three aces on Sunday, tying for the team lead.

Senior setter Bibiany Fonseca is 65th in assists, averaging a MEAC-best 10.49 per set.

As a team, the Lady Pirates (11-8, 5-0 MEAC) are eighth in the nation in aces, averaging 1.79 per set as a team to rank second in the conference. Hampton is also 62nd nationally in hitting percentage (a MEAC-best .241) and 90th in kills (a MEAC-best 13.35 per set).

The Lady Pirates also lead the MEAC in assists (12.11 per set) and blocks (1.92 per set).

The Lady Pirates, winners of three straight and six of their last seven, will return to action on Friday, when they take on Delaware State in Holland Hall at 6 p.m.
