Shaw sweeps NCCU Eagle Cross Country Classic
DURHAM, N.C. – Shaw University beat out North Carolina Central University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams during Saturday’s running of the NCCU Eagle Classic at Forest Hills Park.
In the women’s race, Shaw freshman Merideth Alexander led the way with a time of 20 minutes, 11 seconds, followed by rookie teammate Muriel Evans in second place with a time of 22:41.
NCCU’s top female finisher was Kiara Glover in third place with a time of 22:49, while Lady Eagle Christa Landy placed fourth at 24:10.
As a team, the Shaw women took seven of the top nine positions to defeat NCCU with a winning score of 21 points.
In the men’s race, Shaw senior Darius Berry took top honors by crossing the finish line in 22:59, while fellow Bears Alphonso Boone (23:16) and Marcus Nelson (23:23) placed second and third, respectively.
NCCU was paced by Snonsio Boye-Weah in fourth place (26:15), while Keenan Terry finished fifth (27:07) for the Eagles.

Swain, Lady Bears Place Second At Delaware State Meet
DOVER, Del. - Led by Ishakeema Swain’s second-place finish, the Lady Bears placed three in the top five to come in second at the Delaware State Meet on Friday evening, hosted by Delaware State University.
Swain ran a time of 18:40.96, while Ashley Seymour finished third in a time of 18:55.32. Nyneeya Columbus placed third with a time of 19:16.84. Kali Kendall crossed the line in ninth-place in a time of 19:33.06 to finish within the top 10. As a team Morgan State would finish with 30 points.
Hampton’s Nichelle Harris won the individual title in a time of 18:07.12, as the Lady Pirates won the team title with a total of 26 points. Howard placed third with 97 points, while the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) scored 105 points and host Delaware State had 122 points to finish fourth and fifth, respectively. Wesley finished sixth with 154 points.

Lady Pirates capture Delaware State Invitational title
DOVER, Del. -- The Hampton University women’s cross country team won its second straight meet on Friday, taking the Delaware State Invitational as senior Nichelle Harris took her second straight individual title. The men’s cross country team finished fourth.
The Lady Pirates won the women’s meet with 26 points, beating Morgan State by four points.
Harris led five Lady Pirates in the top 10, winning the individual crown with a personal-best time of 18:07.12 on the 5K course, six days after taking the individual title in the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge.
Senior Devyn Thompson came in fourth after running a 19:05.30, while sophomore Ce’aira Brown came in sixth with a time of 19:18.75 and senior Ashley Armand was seventh after running a 19:21.67.
Senior Cydney Robinson ran a 19:23.94 to finish eighth.
Sophomore Kaylor Murray finished 18th after running a 20:16.42, and junior Malekah Hollandwas 21stwith a 20:34.61.
Freshman Tandeka Nunn came in 24th with a 20:44.08, while freshman Amanda Delacruz ran a 21:00.65 to finish 28th.
The Pirates finished the men’s meet with 94 points, while Howard took the team crown with 37 points.
Senior Je’Von Hutchison paced the Pirates with a 29:43.27 on the 5-mile course, coming in 14th, while freshman Rayon Black was 16th with a 30:06.50 and junior Edose Ibadin ran a 30:07.18 to finish 17th.
Freshman Warren Hill ran a 30:46.05 to finish 21st, while junior Ramon Kelly ran a 33:06.25 to come in 37th.
Sophomore Andrae Green finished 40th after running a 34:27.76.
Elisha Metto of Howard ran a 26:43.61 to win the individual title.

Smooth Leads Bears to Third Place Finish
DOVER, Del. – The Morgan State men’s cross country team traveled to Dover, Del. on Friday to participate in the Delaware State XC Meet. The Bears finished third overall.
Christian Smooth paced the blue and orange, finishing third in the 5-mile race (27:41.32). Lenier Tucker posted a top-10 by crossing the finish line in seventh place in a time of 28:20.31. Onyx Johnson was next to cross the line for the Bears in 18th place (30:14.16).
Howard won the meet by finishing with 37 points, followed by Maryland-Eastern Shore (45 points) and Morgan State (93 points). Hampton placed fourth (94 points), Delaware State finished fifth (102 points), followed by Wesley (133 points) and Coppin State (156 points).

Delaware State women, men place fifth at DSU Meet
Smyrna, Del. --- The Delaware State University women’s and men’s cross country teams each posted fifth place finishes at the third Hornet Invitational of the season at the DSU Outreach & Research Center Course this past weekend.
Hampton took first place in the women’s race, while Howard was tops among the men’s teams.
Delaware State’s women were led by Brianna Sims, who was 22nd among the 70 runners with a time of 20-minutes-37.36 seconds. DSU’s Ashley Robinson was 23rd, completing the 5K course in 20:30.68. Anaya Reid was the only other Hornet in the top 25 with a time of 20:46.19.
In the men’s race, Terrell Oliver was the first Hornet to cross the finish line. Oliver was eighth among the 49 runners with a time of 28:30.53 on the five-mile course.
The next DSU runner to finish the race was Michael Cummings, who was 20th overall at 30:28.29. Brandon Barnes was the only other Hornet in the top 25, finishing 22nd with a time of 30:57.53.

UMES men place second, women fourth at Delaware State Invitational
DOVER, Del. - For the fourth straight meet, the UMES men's cross country team finished strong with a second place finish at the Delaware State Invitational. The men finished second out of seven schools in the competition, while the women placed fourth in a six school field.
In the Men's 5 Mile Run, the Hawks' eight runners combined for the score of 45, finishing just eight points behind first place Howard. In the Women's 5k competition, the Lady Hawks compiled a score of
105.
Three Hawk runners finished in the Top 10, led by Freshman Khalil Rmidi who had another individual second place finish with a time of 27:25.51. Freshman Nassor Whitehead finished fourth in the field with a time of 27:52.65, while Freshman Derrick Cheruiyot placed tenth with a time of 28:44.20.
Other notable performers for the Hawks were Senior Codjo Gbedo with a time of 29:26.84 and a 13th place finish, and Senior Paul Jerry finished at 30:21.36, good for a 19th place finish.
The Lady Hawks had eight runners which averaged a 5k time of 20:54. Freshman Rachel Halmon was the top UMES performer, finishing tenth in the field of 70 runners with a time of 19:39.40. Sophomores Shantol Hemley and Margret Wilmot-Francis finished 16th and 17th in the competition, respectively.
