Lady Rattlers remain unbeaten in MEAC play with win over Lady Wildcats
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - - Delicia Pierre and Destiny Hudson each had career-high double-doubles in Bethune-Cookman’s 3-1 (25-21,25-20, 24-26,25-16) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division loss to Florida A&M Friday in Moore Gym.
Pierre, a sophomore, had 23 kills and 18 digs while Hudson, also a sophomore, posted 16 kills and 18 digs as B-CU slipped to 4-18 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Katherine Huanec’s 17 kills led three Rattlers (8-6, 5-0) in double figures.
B-CU extended the match to a fourth set after taking an early 16-12 lead. Florida A&M managed a 24-24 tie, but the Lady Cats capitalized on a Rattler attack error and used a Hudson kill to win the set.
B-CU had a 21-20 lead in the first set before the Rattlers scored the final five points.
Phlyecia Armstrong had eight kills and four blocks for B-CU. Normarie Rolon and Jennifer Jimenez added 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

Sturgeon and Okpegbue lead Coppin State past Delaware State
BALTIMORE – Denali Sturgeon and Cindy Okpegbue each had 10 kills and Coppin State extended its home winning streak to three straight with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Delaware State on Friday in the Physical Education Complex.
Coppin State, which improved to 6-13 overall and 3-2 in the MEAC, has notched home victories over Morgan State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State after dropping its first home match of the season against American.
Sturgeon had 10 kills and a .214 attack percentage, while Okpegbue had 10 kills and a .600 attack percentage. Kandace Thomas added seven kills and hit. 429 for the match, while Kendra Ireigbe had seven kills and hit .667.
Freshman Marissa Freeman led a strong Coppin State blocking performance with five blocks. The Eagles, who had 10 total blocks, also received three blocks from Ireigbe and Okpegbue while Chelsee Sauni and Thomas each had two blocks.
Gabrielle Otero had 12 digs to lead the Eagles, while Sauni racked up 31 assists.
Delaware State (1-13, 0-4 MEAC) was led by Jessica Russell-Croucher who had 10 kills and nine digs. Edarkis Branch added six kills for the Hornets.

Stamnes paces Lady Aggies to 3-1 win over Lady Bulldogs
GREENSBORO -- Sophomore Brooke Stamnes recorded six of her 16 kills in the fourth set to lead North Carolina A&T to a 3-1 MEAC win over S.C. State in volleyball action at Moore Gymnasium Friday night.
Sophomore Aleena McDaniel led the Aggies with a career-high 17 kills, while freshman setter Liz Martino recorded a season-high 44 assists.
The Bulldogs were led by Desire Waller who had a match-high 23 kills. The win improves A&T to 3-18 overall and 2-2 in the MEAC. S.C. State dropped to 2-17 and 2-2 in the MEAC.

NCCU grabs first victory with sweep over Savannah State
DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team posted its best hitting percentage of the season during a dominating 3-0 sweep over Savannah State University on Friday night in Durham, N.C.
The Eagles amassed 41 kills with 12 errors on 83 attacks for a .349 hitting percentage.
The NCCU offense was topped by rookie Kelsey Murphy’s 14 kills; while junior Da’sha Brown added 13 and junior Ashley McCarthy contributed nine and sophomore Melissa Rabell Pineiro distributed 35 assists.
Defensively, Murphy, McCarthy and senior J’Nae Raynor each collected six digs, while senior Kalin Russell and McCarthy collected five block assists and one solo rejection each.
SSU was led by Justice Dilworth who gathered a team-best eight kills, Alexis Washington who led the match with eight digs and setter Caitlynn Masoe who circulated 19 assists.
As a team, the Tigers earned 23 kills, 18 digs, four service aces and one team block.
With the match victory, the Eagles Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference record advances to 1-3 while the Tigers drop to 0-4.

Morgan State Defeats UMES, 3-1; Ends 12-Match Losing Skid
BALTIMORE, Md. - The Morgan State volleyball team ended a seven-year, 12-match losing skid on Friday evening to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), following a 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19) victory over the Lady Hawks in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match at Hill Field House.
Samantha Prescott recorded a match-high 16 kills, Janelle Wilson had 12 kills and Zuri Smith tallied 10 kills with a team-high .643 hitting percentage, as Morgan State picked up its first win over UMES since Nov. 9, 2006. Arianna Hayden tallied a career-high 19 digs and Ngebui Chafeh finished with a match-high 50 assists to help the Lady Bears remain unbeaten at home in three matches.
UMES (2-14, 1-3 MEAC), who has won the past two consecutive MEAC championships, was led by Haley Robinson, who finished with a team-high 14 kills. Jingqiao Li finished with a team-high 13 digs and Sonia Rosales tallied 34 assists for the Lady Hawks, who have now dropped two straight and six of their last seven matches.
