Howard opens MEAC play with win over DSU

DOVER, Del. --- Howard University Volleyball opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North Division play this evening with a 3-1 road victory over Delaware State.

Four players – freshmen Katherine Broussard and Whitney Fields and juniors Stephanie Shultis and Meagan Lagerlef logged double-digit kills for the Lady Bison, who have won three of their last four games and six of the last eight. Broussard and Fields each had 14 kills, while Shultis and Lagerlef each had 10.

After dropping a competitive first set 19-25, Howard would sweep the next three sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 to improve to 12-5 (1-0 MEAC) on the year. Delaware State falls to 1-11 (0-2 MEAC).

Both teams finished even in digs with 43, but Howard found a way to set up and complete more possessions than DSU. The Lady Bison outmatched the Hornets in kills (57-41), attack percentage (.278-.225) and assists (49-36).

Shultis ended the match with 38 of Howard's assists, while junior Allyson Lod  had a game-high 14 digs.
