Hornets No Match Razorbacks
Fayetteville, Ark. -Delaware State's hopes for a second straight road upset were dashed by Arkansas' hot shooting and pressure defense in an 86-51 loss to the Razorbacks at Bud Walton Arena this evening.
The Hornets, coming off a 53-51 win at Conference USA Marshall on Wednesday, fell to 6-9 on the season. Arkansas won its fifth straight game to improve to 9-4. The Razorbacks are 5-0 all-time vs. the Hornets.
B.J. Young led Arkansas with a game-high 19 points. Young was 8-for-9 from the field and 2-of-2 from three-point territory. Anthlon Bell chipped in with 12 points for the Razorbacks. His performance was highlighted by four three-point field goals.
Thirteen of the 14 players who saw action for Arkansas scored at least three points in the game.
Casey Walker was high man for Delaware State with 13 points. Walker knocked down three three-point shots to give him six threes in the last two games. He surpassed the 900-point mark at DSU during the contest. Walker now has 912 points in two-plus seasons with the Hornets.
Tahj Tate was the only other Hornet in double figures with 10 points. He has 600 points at DSU. Miles Bowman had eight points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and shared team-high honors with eight rebounds.
The Hornets trailed by as many as 41 points in the second half.
After shooting 30.4% in the first half (7-for-23), Delaware State improved to 45.8% in the final 20 minutes (11-for-24).

UCF Jousts Rattlers, 99-69
ORLANDO, Fla.-Florida A&M dropped their fifth straight as UCF handed the Rattlers a, 99-69 defeat Saturday afternoon at UCF Arena.
FAMU (4-11) had three Rattlers to score in double figures as Reggie Lewis scored a team high 13 points, followed by Jomari Bradshaw with 11 and Muhammad Abdul-Aleem with 10. D'Andre Bullard led the Rattlers on the board with four, while Jamie Adams dished an out a team high four assists.
UCF (10-4) had four Knights to score in double figures as Isaiah Sykes scored a game high 22 points, followed by Tristian Spurlock and Keith Clanton as they both scored 15 points each and Calvin Newell with 11. Both Clanton and Sykes and led UCF on the boards with six each and Daiquan Walker dished out a game high six assists.
The Rattlers finished the game shooting 50.0 percent (28-of-56), while the Knights shot 57.6 percent (34-of-59). UCF held the rebounding advantage over FAMU, 35-22.

Bethune-Cookman Falls to LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. - Bethune-Cookman worked its way back into contention after an early 21-point deficit, but LSU pulled away to a 79-63 victory Saturday before 6,462 at the Maravich Center.
A Kevin Dukes three-pointer cut LSU's lead to 69-61 with 1:43 remaining, but the Tigers (9-2) scored 10 consecutive points - including three fastbreak baskets - to clinch the victory.
Adrien Coleman had a game-high 24 for the Wildcats (5-10) while Alex Smith double-doubled for the third consecutive game with 10 points and 10 rebounds in addition to seven blocks and six steals.
Charles Carmouche led four Tigers in double-figures with 17 points, while Shavon Coleman had a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double. Anthony Hickey and Andrew Del Piero scored 14 and 10, respectively.
Paul Scotland, who scored the first Wildcat basket five minutes into the game, had nine points and six rebounds for B-CU, while Javoris Bryant added seven points.
B-CU had more points from the free throw line (17) than the field (13) in the opening 20 minutes. The Wildcats were 17-19 from the line the first half and 17-24 overall.

Howard Uses Balanced Attack to Top Coppin State
BALTIMORE - Troy Franklin scored a game-high 24 points, but Mike Phillips led four players in double figures with 15 points and Howard defeated Coppin State 70-60 in the Eagles MEAC opener on Saturday in the Physical Education Complex.
Howard (4-12, 1-1 MEAC) shot 51.2 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Coppin State 39-29 in snapping a four-game losing streak. The Bison were 24-of-31 from the free throw line including making their final eight of the game.
Coppin State (3-13, 0-1 MEAC) shot just 36.1 percent from the floor and also made only 5-of-14 free throw attempts.
Phillips finished the game 5-of-8 from the floor and also added seven rebounds for the Bison. Prince Okoroh and Simuel Frazier each scored 13 points and Brandon Ford added 10 points off the bench.
Franklin was 6-of-16 from the three-point line and also had two steals, five rebounds and an assist. Michael Murray was the only other Coppin State player to reach double figures as he finished with 11 points and tied for the team high with five rebounds.
Howard, which never trailed in the game, took a 31-25 lead into halftime.

Hawks Hand Morgan State Home-Opener Loss, 70-60
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Carl Jones scored 17 points and Ronald Roberts posted a double-double as Saint Joseph's won its third straight game, beating Morgan State 70-60 Saturday night in a nonconference matchup.
Langston Galloway played all 40 minutes and scored 16 points, Roberts finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Halil Kanacevic pulled down 12 boards for Saint Joseph's (8-4), which recorded a season-high 50 rebounds.
DeWayne Jackson led Morgan State (3-8) with 16 points, eight boards and four steals. Ian Chiles had 10 points and four blocks, but the Bears shot just 30 percent (24 of 79) in the loss.
Justin Black added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Morgan State cut a seven-point halftime lead to three, 32-29, after Chiles opened the second half with back-to-back baskets. But Saint Joseph's rattled off eight straight to push its lead to 40-29 and pull away.
The Bears, who shot 1-of-13 from deep, got no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Bulldogs Fall Short To Gamecocks 80-69
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Junior center Matthew Hezekiah tossed in a game-high 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, as South Carolina State (4-10) fell short, 80-69 of knocking off SEC foe South Carolina (10-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Colonial Life Arena.
Both teams playing in their final non-conference contest of the year, battled from start to finish with Hezekiah scoring six of the first eight for the Bulldogs jumping out early 10-2 and held an advantage for more than half of the first half.
Four Gamecocks reached double figures in the effort, with senior forward Lakeem Jackson tallying 16 to lead the way, while junior guard's Brian Richardson scored 15 and Brenton Williams recorded 14. Sophomore guard Damien Leonard added 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds in his first start of the season.
Junior guard Adama "Louis" Adams finished with 12 points, going perfect from the line hitting 8-of-8 on the night. Freshmen Darryl Palmer and Patrick Myers each had solid nights in the loss. Palmer tossed in eight points and grabbed six rebounds, while Myers chipped in 9 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

NSU Survives Navy's 2nd Half Comeback in 74-68 Win
NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State hit lights out from 3-point range in the first half and then survived Navy's second half comeback in a 74-68 victory over the Midshipmen Saturday afternoon at Joseph Echols Hall in NSU's last non-conference game of the year.
The Spartans shot 9-of-15 from beyond the arc in the first stanza and seemed to be well on their way to breaking the school record for treys in building a 22-point lead at the half. NSU went up by as much as 26 in the second half and still led by more than 20 with 10 minutes left, but then it was Navy's turn to catch fire from 3.
Navy hit 8-of-18 in the second half from 3-point range, including 8-of-15 in the last nine and a half minutes of the game. The Midshipmen's diminutive 5-7 guard, Kevin Alter, hit six of those treys for 18 points, easily surpassing his previous career high of six.
The Midshipmen (6-10) outscored the Spartans 25-10 over a nearly nine-minute span, cutting the deficit to eight with just under a minute left. Alter's last 3-pointer got the Midshipmen to within five, but with only eight seconds left Navy ran out of time and NSU (7-10) broke a five-game losing streak.
Junior Pendarvis Williams scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting with four rebounds and three steals, while junior Malcolm Hawkins and senior Rob Johnson chipped in with 17 and 15, respectively. NSU shot 24-of-44 for the game (54.5 percent), including better than 62 percent in the first half alone.
Navy outscored the Spartans by 16 in the second half, hitting 17-of-36 (47.2 percent) in the second part of the game and 41.3 percent overall on 26-of-63 shooting. The Midshipmen took 19 more shots in the contest thanks to a big discrepancy in free throw shooting.
NSU made 17-of-26 for the game from the charity stripe, compared to just 4-of-6 for Navy.
Fuentes and junior Marese Phelps each added six assists, while Goode and Johnson each had three of NSU's season-high 10 blocks on the night. The Spartans missed all seven of their 3-pointers in the second half.
Navy, on the other hand, made 12-of-30 from 3-point range for the game. Tilman Dunbar and Worth Smith added 12 and 11 points, respectively, and Smith also had a game-high nine boards.
Both teams had 29 rebounds on the day.
