Hampton?s Strakova Named Vasid Second Team All-State

Hampton rightside Vendula Strakova was named a Second Team All-State selection, the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced when its yearly awards were released on Wednesday.

Strakova was third in the nation in points this past season, averaging 5.61 per set in leading the Lady Pirates to a 19-14 overall record - tying the program Division I record for wins in a season - and advancing to the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament.

She was also fifth in the nation in aces, averaging 0.52 per set, while her 4.75 kills per set were the sixth-best average among all Div. I players in 2012.

Strakova, who was named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team, led the Lady Pirates with 408 kills last season, and her .283 hitting percentage was best among Hampton players with at least 200 total attacks. Her 41 service aces were a team-high, and she was second in digs with 204.

Liberty's Carolina Douglas was named VaSID Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, while Shane Pinder - also of Liberty - earned VaSID Coach of the Year honors.
