One-Point Clips Hawks In 58-57 Loss To Bethune-Cookman
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Entering halftime Monday night, the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore held a 31-30 lead over its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
opponent. By the end of regulation Bethune-Cookman had turned the tables, and would
go on to defeat UMES 58-57. This is the second consecutive game that the Hawks have
lost by one-point. The loss drops UMES to 1-15 overall and 1-4 in the MEAC.
Kevin Mays repeated a 20-point, double-double performance as he grabbed 11 rebounds.
Francis Ezeiru notched a game-high 13 boards. UMES again outperformed its opponent,
winning the battle of the boards 40-30. Against Florida A&M, the Hawks notched a
season-high 57 rebounds.
Mays went 8-of-12 from the field, and tacked on four perfect free throws. Teammate
Troy Snyder added 11 points, as did Louis Bell. Snyder was a hound defensively with six
steals and five defensive rebounds. UMES had a total of 13 steals.
The Hawks led by as many as seven points before Bethune-Cookman tied and took the
lead. Monday's game was tied four times and its lead changed an equal amount.

Coppin State's Armstrong Hits Eight Three-Pointers In Loss To North Carolina A&T
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jeremy Underwood hit a three-pointer with 9 seconds to play in regulation, lifting North Carolina A&T to a 63-62 victory over Coppin State on Monday in the Corbett Sports Center.
The Eagles trailed 60-56 after a layup by Adrian Powell with 5:42 to play in the second half before rallying to take the lead.
Three consecutive free throws, one by Michael Murray and two by Patrick Cole, cut the North Carolina A&T lead to 60-59 with 4:16 to play.
Coppin State (5-17, 2-5 MEAC) then took the lead at 62-60 when Taariq Cephas drilled a three-pointer with 2:02 to play.
North Carolina A&T (10-11, 3-3 MEAC) took a timeout following a Coppin State turnover and Underwood then hit the game-winning three-pointer with 9 seconds left to play.
Coppin State missed a layup on its final possession and failed to get off a shot after gaining the offensive rebound.
Powell led the Aggies with 23 points, while Lamont Middleton finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Underwood had eight points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field.
Coppin State was led by Andre Armstrong who scored 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the three-point line. The eight three-point baskets ties Armstrong for third most in Coppin State history.
Murray had 11 points and seven rebounds and Charles Ieans added 10 points.
The game featured seven ties and 17 lead changes and neither team led by more than four points in the second half.

Delaware State Hornets Stings Rattlers 57-48
TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - The Florida A&M Men's Basketball team dropped a 57-48 decision to Delaware State Monday night at the Al Lawson Center.
FAMU (6-15, 3-4 MEAC) was paced by Jomari Bradshaw with a game high 18 points, followed by Reggie Lewis with 15. Markee Teal led the Rattlers on the boards with eight.
DSU (9-10, 4-1 MEAC) had three Hornets to score in double figures as Tahj Tate scored a team high 16 points, followed by both Albert Thomas and Marques Oliver with 10 points each. Thomas led the Hornets on the boards with eight.
The Hornets grabbed an early 13-8 lead on a Casey Walker three pointer with 12:52 to go in the first. DSU extended their lead to 22-15 on a Kendall Gray dunk at the 3:42 mark of the first. FAMU would go into the break trailing DSU 22-19 as Lewis hit a pair of free throws with 53 seconds left in the half.
The Rattlers opened up the second half with an 11-2 run as they took a 30-24 lead on a Bradshaw layup at the 14:23 mark of the half. FAMU extended their lead to 37-29 on a Lewis three pointer with 12:00 to go in the game.
Marques Oliver would tie the game at 41-41 with a pair of free throws with 6:29 left in the game, capping a 12-4 run by Hornets.
Oneyekachukwu Odi would tie the game at 43-43 for FAMU with 4:54 left in the game. That would be the closest that FAMU would get as DSU ended the contest with a 14-5 run.

NCCU Outlasts Morgan State For Seventh Straight Win
DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University outlasted the visiting Bears of Morgan State University 69-61 in a physical battle on Monday night inside McDougald-McLendon Gym. The Eagles extended their win streak to seven games, the program's longest stretch of victories since the start of the 1996-97 season.
NCCU (13-7) wraps up its first unblemished month since January 2000 and remains unbeaten in MEAC play at 6-0.
Ray Willis topped the Eagles with 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot. He shot 5 of 8 from the field and 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Stanton Kidd added 13 points and a team-high seven boards, Jay Copeland chipped in 10 points and four caroms, while Emanuel Chapman contributed nine points, four assists and three steals.
The first 10 minutes of the contest was a sparring match with three ties and seven lead changes. With the score knotted at 19-19, Willis nailed a three-pointer at 9:19 to start a 7-0 Eagles' run. The Bears managed the trim the deficit to two points on two occasions, but NCCU closed the half with a 13-4 run to take a 42-31 advantage into the locker room.
NCCU increased the cushion to as much as 11 points (49-38 at 14:36), but the Bears continued to battle back. After MSU narrowed the gap to three points twice, the Eagles responded by pushing the margin to 64-54 on a pair of Copeland free throws with 3:52 on the clock.
The Bears made one final charge, scoring seven unanswered points to make things interesting at 64-61 with 1:34 remaining.
On the following possession, NCCU answered the challenge as Willis found Kidd cutting to the basket and the 6-7 forward soared over the 7-2 center Ian Chiles for a layup with 1:14 left to give the Eagles a 66-61 advantage.
MSU (6-11, 3-3 MEAC) had a chance to make it a one-possession game, but Anthony Hubbard missed a pair of free throws at 1:07.
After an NCCU turnover, Willis made a steal while diving out of bounds, and Chapman nailed two free throws to seal the victory.
