Coppin State Tops North Carolina Central
DURHAM, N.C. - Junior Kyra Coleman scored 10 points and Coppin State opened the second half with a 13-0 run on its way to a 53-38 MEAC victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday in McDougald-McLendon Gym.
The Eagles held a 24-17 lead at halftime, but opened the second half on a 13-0 run that gave Coppin State a 37-17 lead with 13:48 to play in the game. Coleman and Leola Spotwood sparked the run with four points each.
Coppin State (8-12, 4-3 MEAC) took its largest lead of the game at 47-24 when Shanice Maynard and Shawntae Payne hit back-to-back three-pointers at the 7:24 mark of the second half.
Coppin State limited North Carolina Central to just 32.6 percent shooting from the floor, while also committing a season-low seven turnovers. CSU also forced North Carolina Central into 24 turnovers and converted those turnovers into 30 points.
Spotwood finished with nine points, while Larrisa Carter added eight points and nine rebounds for Coppin State. Maynard added six points, and Jaleah Holsey and Payne each had five points as 10 of the 11 Coppin State players scored.
North Carolina Central remained winless on the season as it dropped to 0-18 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Tisha Dixon had 10 points and 17 rebounds to lead North Carolina Central. Montreshia Perry finished with eight points and Kaylah Blount had six points.

North Carolina A&T Tops Morgan State, 90-73
GREENSBORO-North Carolina A&T defeated Morgan State, 90-73, on Saturday afternoon at Corbett Sports Center.
The 90 points marked a new season-high for the team, and the Aggies collected a season-best 30 field goals and 27 free throws.
Junior Tracy King collected her second double-double on the year with 22 points (all in the second half) and a career-high 13 rebounds. The Aggies also had three other players score in double figures as redshirt junior Amber Calvin had 16, sophomore Ariel Bursey had a career-high 13 and senior JaQuayla Berry recorded 14 points.
The Aggies (11-7, 3-2) held a 17-point lead at the half, after holding the Bears (5-14, 2-4) to just 20 points on 26 percent shooting and 15 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
Senior Bianca Jarrett recorded a team-best 21 points for Morgan State.

Balanced Attack Leads Lady Pirates To Sixth Straight Win
NORFOLK, Va. -Hampton had four players score in double figures on Saturday afternoon en route to a 76-41 upending of rival Norfolk State at Echols Hall.
It was Hampton's sixth straight win, and the Lady Pirates (15-5, 6-0 MEAC) have won the last 14 meetings with the Spartans.
Senior guard Olivia Allen scored 22 points for the second straight game to lead the Lady Pirates, while senior forward Keiara Avant and junior forward Alyssa Bennett each had 15 points.
Avant added a team-high 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season, while Bennett tied her career high with six assists. Junior guard Nicole Hamilton added 11 points and four assists.
The Lady Pirates set their third-highest scoring margin of the season, while also recording their third-largest margin of victory in 2012-13.
The Lady Pirates shot a season-best 42.4 percent (25-for-59) from the floor, while hitting a season-best 10 3-pointers and going 16-for-19 (84.2 percent) from the free throw line. Hampton also out-rebounded the Spartans 43-32 and turned 19 Norfolk State turnovers into 25 points.
Norfolk State (3-15, 1-6 MEAC) shot just 28.6 percent (16-for-56) from the floor and missed all five 3-point attempts. The Spartans went 9-for-16 (56.3 percent) from the free throw line.
Aivah Parham led the Spartans with 12 points.

B-CU Falls in Overtime to Delaware State, 62-57
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Two Lady Wildcats comebacks weren't enough to collect the victory, as Delaware State scored the final six points in the overtime period on Saturday to claim a hard-fought 62-57 win over homestanding Bethune-Cookman in a MEAC affair inside historic Moore Gymnasium.
Despite seven lead changes, a key B-CU turnover opened up a fast break opportunity for DSU's Jade Washington with 34 seconds to go, putting the Lady Hornets on top for the final time. DSU was perfect from the line as B-CU was forced to foul, en route to the 62-57 win.
DSU scored six off turnovers, four on the fast break, in the extra period, with 18 off turnovers and 14 on the break across the three periods.
A career-high afternoon for Terrenisha Hollis sparked the Lady Wildcats throughout as she registered career marks of 22 points and six steals, in addition to nine rebounds, coming up just short of her second double-double. Chastity Rene Taylor added 13 in the second half for a total of 18. Kayla Crawford also added nine rebounds for the Lady Wildcats.

FAMU Lady Rattlers Defeat UMES Hawks 67-54
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 26) -Florida A&M won their fifth MEAC game of the season as they defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 67-54 today at the Al Lawson Center.
FAMU (8-11, 5-1 MEAC) had a pair of Lady Rattlers to score in double figures as Jasmine Grice led the way with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jaleesa Blue added a spark off the bench as she had 12 points and seven rebounds.
UMES (5-10, 1-3 MEAC) had only one player to score in double figures as Ashleigh Claybrooks finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
FAMU dominated the game from the beginning, shooting 38-percent (25-65) from the field and controlled the boards, outrebounding the Lady Hawks 45-35. The rebounding played a major role as it helped the Lady Rattlers in the second chance point's column, 14-9.
The Lady Hawks struggled throughout the game as their team leader in points, 15.1 points average for the season, Karona Roach, went scoreless until the second half and scored only one point. UMES shot 38-percent (21-55) from the field but only attempted eight free throws.
