Longwood Upends NSU 5-2

GREENVILLE, N.C. -Norfolk State picked up a trio of wins but it was not enough as the Spartans fell to Longwood 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center in Greenville, N.C.

The Lancers improved to 2-1 while NSU dropped to 0-3 on the season.

In the doubles matches junior Peter Rastromer-Pello and freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich defeated Giorgi Khmiadashvili and Daniel Elston 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot.  Harry Kelleher and Edward Becker defeated sophomore Igor Braga and freshman Robin Riethmueller 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles spot. Sophomores Shaheed Mourillon-Swift and Daniel Grauel finished up the doubles matches for the Spartans with an 8-0 loss to Bharani Sankar and Steed Johnson.

NSU picked up a pair of back to back wins in the singles matches as Riethmueller defeated Kelleher 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles spot and Ramstromer-Pello defeated Becker 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles spot. Braga led off for the Spartans in the singles matches where he suffered a 6-3, 7-6 loss to Khmiadashvili. Elston defeated Zyhmantovich 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles position. In the No. 5 singles spot Johnson came out with a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 victory over Grauel. Mourillon-Swift completed the singles matches for NSU with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Sankar.
