UMES Sits In First After A Perfect Day One At Kutztown Invite

READING, Pa.-It was another first place day for the Hawks of UMES, posting a perfect 6-0 record and leading the 28-team field by 181 pins with a 4,940 tally.  UMES dominated the quad-baker games, posting a tournament high 891 game in the fifth match in a win over Sacred Heart.

The Hawks cruised through No. 8Adelphi (873-807), host No. 10 Kutztown (777-744), No. 17 New Jersey City (853-818), No. 16 Long Island (781-697), No. 12 Sacred Heart (891-720) and Monmouth (765-702).

UMES took the lead after the first quad-bakers with their 873 and never let up.  Wisconsin-Whitewater trailed them early on, but the Hawks then looked back to see Vanderbilt and MEAC foe Norfolk State in their mirror.  After all six games it was the Spartans of NSU in second with a pinfall of 4,759 and a 4-2 record.  Vanderbilt was third with a 4,758, just one pin out of second and a 5-1 mark.  Sacred Heart was fourth and Kutztown fifth, both with a 4-2 record.  Wisconsin-Whitewater, who topped the Hawks last weekend, was sixth and also was 4-2.

All teams bowled on a modified Montreal pattern, shortened for the event.
