MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

Coppin State guard Shawntae Payne was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. North Carolina A&T's Eboni Ross earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State's Rachel Gordon earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Payne (Guard, 5-7, Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) aided the Lady Eagles to victories over South Carolina State and Norfolk State last week. Against SCSU Payne scored 22 points, including 8-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range. She followed with 18 points on 6-of-10 from the floor in a 56-51 win over Norfolk State. For the week, she averaged 20.0 points and 2.0 assists while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor (14-of-24)  and 60.0 percent  from 3-point range (6-of-10).

Ross (Center, 6-2, r-Fr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds to aid the Lady Aggies to a 1-1 mark last week. Against Florida A&M, Ross tallied a season-high 17 points, including 7-of-11 from the floor, and 2-fo-3 from beyond the arc. 

Gordon (Forward, 6-0, Jr., Woodbridge, Va.) grabbed 19 rebounds, blocked one shot and stole four passes in two Spartan games last week. Offensively, she scored 16 points and shot 53-percent from the field (7-of-13).

Keiara Avant (Hampton)
recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 66-60 win over Morgan State.

Kashay Barnes (NSU) totaled 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals in two games last week.

JaQuayla Berry (NCAT) combined for 22 points, 16 rebounds and three steals against Florida A&M and Howard.

Tasia Bristow (DSU) scored a season-high 22 points, grabbed two rebounds and dished out six assists in a 72-63 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.  

Ashley Clark (SCSU) averaged 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games for the Lady Bulldogs.

Saadia Doyle (Howard) tallied a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds in a win over North Carolina A&T.

Jasmine Grice (FAMU) combined for 53 points, 14 rebounds, four assist and four steals against North Carolina A&T and Savannah State.

Nicole Hamilton (Hampton) scored a career-high 24 points, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out five assists in a 66-60 win over Morgan State.

Terrenisha Hollis (B-CU) combined for 22 points, 13 rebounds, and six steals in two games for the Lady Wildcats.

Bianca Jarrett (MSU) scored a game-high 31 points and added a team-high 10 rebounds in a 66-60 loss to Hampton.

Mykala Jones (SCSU) shot 50-percent from the floor and scored 15 points in 24 minutes of action for the Lady Bulldogs.

Tracy King (NCAT) posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Florida A&M.

Alexis Udoji (UMES) scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a loss to Delaware State.
