MEAC Announces Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Savannah State's Preston Blackman was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday.  Hampton's Deron Powers and Du'Vaughn Maxwell were named Rookie and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Blackman (G, 6-0, 170, Sr., Hopkins, S.C.) totaled 55 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals in a pair of conference wins over Morgan State and Florida A&M last week.  Against Morgan State Blackman recorded 41 points, shooting 53-percent (8-of-15) from 3-point range and perfectly from the free-throw line (5-of-5) in 46 minutes of play. He followed with 14 points, four assists, and two rebounds in a 57-55 win over Florida A&M. 


Powers (G, 5-11, 165, Fr., Williamsburg, Va.)
recorded back-to-back double-double performances of 16 points and 10 assists against Quinnipiac and 19 points and 10 assists against Morgan State. 

Maxwell (G/F, 6-7, 215, Jr., Manhattan, NY) tallied 14 rebounds and seven blocks to help the Pirates finish 1-1 last week.  Against Quinnipiac Maxwell grabbed 10 boards and blocked four shots.  He recorded four rebounds and three blocks against Morgan State.  Offensively Maxwell posted 17 points and dished out one assist.

Other Top Performers

Jamie Adams (FAMU) scored 18 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the field, in a two-point loss to Savannah State.

Andre Armstrong (CSU) averaged 19.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, shooting 11-of-11 from the free-throw line to help the Eagles finish 1-1 last week.

Adrien Coleman (BCU) averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 0.5 blocks in two conference games last week.

Brandon Goode (NSU) recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds with two assists and one blocked shot in a 75-68 win over Coppin State.

Malcolm Hawkins (NSU) led the Spartans with a combined 30 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and five steals in a pair of conference victories against Howard and Coppin State.

Odi Oneyekachukwu (FAMU) blocked eight shots in two conference games last week.

DeWayne Jackson (MSU) scored 24 points, pulled down six rebounds, posted four steals and dished one assist in a win over Hampton.

Ricky Johnson (BCU) tallied 16 points, 17 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and one blocked shot to help the Wildcats finish 1-1 last week.

Arnold Louis (SSU) recorded a combined 16 points, 20 rebounds, two assists and two steals in two conference wins over Savannah State.

Kevin Mays (UMES) posted 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds with two assists and two steals in a win over Delaware State.

Adrian Powell (NCAT) scored 23 points, shooting 64-percent from the field, and hauled in seven rebounds in a 61-37 win over Howard.

Jasper Williams (Hampton) averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 5.0 steals to help the Pirates finish 1-1 last week.

Ray Willis (NCCU) finished with 26 points, connecting on 6-of-10 baskets including 13-of-13 from the charity stripe, with six boards, two assists and one steal in 40 minutes of play against Bethune-Cookman.
