MEAC Announces Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - North Carolina Central's Stanton Kidd was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Deron Powers of Hampton was named Rookie of the Week while Savannah State's Arnold Louis earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Stanton Kidd (F, 6-7, 215, Jr., Baltimore, Md.) averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks for the Eagles. He led North Carolina Central to a 2-0 mark last week with victories over Virginia-Lynchburg and Florida A&M. He connected on 15-of-23 baskets (65.0%) and was 7-of-11 (63.0%) from the charity stripe.

Deron Powers (G, 5-11, 165, Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) averaged 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals for the Pirates. He led Hampton to a 69-65 non-conference win against James Madison with 19 points, three rebounds, one steal and five assists. In a conference win over Howard, he totaled 14 points, including 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the free-throw line.  

Arnold Louis (F, 6-7, 205, Sr., Wachula, Fla.) grabbed 22 rebounds with two steals in two games for the Tigers. Offensively Johnson tallied 16 points, while shooting 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the floor.

Other Top Performances

Justin Black (MSU) paced the Bears with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 76-60 win against South Carolina State.

Javoris Bryant (B-CU) averaged 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games for the Wildcats.

Kevin Dukes (B-CU) totaled 34 points, five rebounds, 12 assists and two steals to aid the Wildcats in two games last week.

Richard Gaston (NSU) pulled down 10 rebounds in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Malcolm Hawkins (NSU) scored 14 points, including 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the charity stripe, against Maryland Eastern Shore.

DeWayne Jackson (MSU) scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists against South Carolina State.

Alphonso Leary (Howard) grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a career-high five shots in a loss to Hampton.

Reggie Lewis (FAMU) shot 50-percent (3-of-6) from 3-pt. range en route to 12 points, two rebounds and five assists against North Carolina Central.

Trey Kellum (FAMU) scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in a loss to North Carolina Central.

Du'Vaughn Maxwell (Hampton) combined for 14 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks in two wins last week.

Kevin Mays (UMES) posted a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds against Norfolk State.
