CSU Student-Athletes Continue Excellence in Classroom

Eight Coppin State student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the 2012 fall semester and the athletic department reported an overall grade-point average above 3.00 for the seventh consecutive semester.

Christina Epps, Kendra Ireigbe, Michael Murray, Oleksiy Krylchuk, Roderick Peyton, David Ogan, Loren Johnston and Kareem Sallay each earned a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the fall term.

Over 58 percent of the student-athletes at Coppin State earned a grade-point average of 3.00 or better during the fall semester led by the baseball team which had 18 members top the 3.00 scale.

Additionally, 10 Coppin State student-athletes who are enrolled in the Honors Program achieved a grade-point average of 3.00 or better.

"Our student-athletes took advantage of the structured protocol that requires being proactive, academically assertive and active communicators," said assistant athletic director Fred Reynolds. "I am exceptionally proud of the student-athletes, coaches and the academic resource center staff for consistently emphasizing academic excellence."

Bowling (3.48), Volleyball (3.43), men's tennis (3.35), women's tennis (3.18), softball (3.04), baseball (3.01) and women's track and field (3.00) each posted a team grade-point average of 3.00, or better, during the semester.

Additionally, the Coppin State student-athlete graduation success rate has continued to rise. During the 2005 cohort year, Coppin State posted a graduation rate of 69 percent, which is up from a rate of 65 percent in the 2004 cohort year.
