Represented in the finals of all four singles flights of the Panther Invitational hosted by Florida Institute of Technology, Bethune-Cookman was guaranteed two championships thanks to a pair of Wildcat vs. Wildcat match-ups.
Leonardo Lima's 6-2 6-2 victory over FIT's Patrick Hernadez in the "A" Flight, along with the Seve Day and Diego Garavito triumphs over teammates Juan Varon and Kip Jackson in the "B" and "C" Flights made it three Wildcat titles Sunday on the FIT campus.
The lone B-CU setback came in the "D" Flight when Gilbert Kibet had to retire from his final with Michael Leonard of Palm Beach Atlantic due to a first-set injury.
Day defeated his doubles partner Varon 6-3 6-3 while Garavito beat Jackson 6-2 6-3.
Day and Varon teamed to win their second tournament in as many weeks and improve to 6-0 in the fall. Lima combined with Jackson to win the "C" flight.
Bethune-Cookman's Shereen Peterson-Paul won the "B" singles flight as well as a unique doubles win Sunday at the Panther Invitational hosted by Florida Institute of Technology.
Peterson-Paul, a senior, downed FIT's Stephanie Dohner, 6-0 6-2.
In doubles, Peterson-Paul partnered with a player from Webber International and won the "C" flight on the court though the matches were officially logged as walkovers.
The singles victory helped Peterson-Paul rebound from a frustrating showing last week at Embry-Riddle in which she lost two three-set matches. She was the lone Wildcat to advance to a final this weekend.
Chinatsu Kajiwara won her first round match Saturday but fell in the semifinals in the "A" Flight. Gaby Chinchilla and Laura Rodriguez rebounded from opening round losses to each post two consolation bracket victories in the "C" and "D" Flights.
Rodriguez and Ancia Ifill posted a doubles victory.
