MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY VOLLEYBALL HONORS

South Carolina State junior Desire Waller was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  North Carolina Central’s Christine Anthony earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Waller (6-1, Jr., OH, Houston, Texas) recorded a double-double in two of three matches at the Spartans Invitational last week. She also eclipsed the 20 kill mark in non-conference action against Hampton and Texas Pan American en route to All-Tournament team honors. For the week, the outside hitter combined for 62 kills, 39 digs, 10 blocks and three assists.

Anthony (5-10, Sr., OH, Willemstad, Curacao) tallied a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs against Campbell. The rookie recorded a .343 hitting percentage and added one block in a defensive effort.

Other Top Performers:

Charlotte Armstead (NSU) became the program’s all-time leader in kills in a loss to South Carolina State.

Natalie Chafeh (MSU) led Morgan State with a match-high 34 assists in a four-set loss to Coppin State.

Bridget Ebster-Schwarzenberger (UMES) recorded 12 kills in a loss to Cal State Bakersfield.

Katherine Huanec (FAMU) finished with a team-high seven kills in the Lady Rattlers loss to Troy.

Sonja Maksimovic (Hampton) averaged 9.75 assists and 1.92 digs per set in three matches for the Lady Pirates.

April McRae (NCAT) led her team with 14 kills in a five set loss to Campbell.

Samantha Prescott (MSU) was just shy of a double-double with 12 kills and nine digs in a loss to Coppin State.

Ariel Richard (CSU) led the Eagles to a 1-1 record last week with 21 kills, 22 digs and three aces.

Melanie Williams (SCSU) averaged 37.33 assists and 8.33 digs in three matches for the Lady Bulldogs.

Victoria Williams (UMES) totaled 32 kills, four digs and four blocks in three matches for the Lady Hawks.
