Hampton Upends South Carolina State In Four SetsNORFOLK, Va. -Hampton won its first match of the Norfolk State Spartan Invitational on Friday at Echols Hall, defeating South Carolina State 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-12).
The Lady Pirates (8-9) have won two straight match-ups against the Lady Bulldogs.
Vendula Strakova led the Lady Pirates with 19 kills to go along with 14 digs on defense for her fourth double-double of the season. Krista Kraskura added 12 kills, while Ioana Kalfinova added nine kills with no errors in 16 attacks to hit a team-best and career-high .562.
Sonja Maksimovic had 38 of Hampton's 45 assists. Freshman Samantha Sours led the way on defense with 20 digs.
Desire Waller led South Carolina State with 23 kills.

Hawks Fall In Pair Of Friday Matches To Finish Roadrunner Invite
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It was a tough day for UMES as the Hawks fell in a pair of matches on Friday in the Roadrunner Invite. UMES was defeated by Utah Valley 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 21-25) and CSU Bakersfield 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-14, 25-16) at the Icardo Center to drop to 14-4 on the season. Utah Valley improved to 7-5 while CSUB went to 5-7.
Victoria Williams combined for 25 kills, earning double digit kills in each match, with a trio of blocks. Maline Vaitai, who earned her 900th kill of her career in the late match, had 17 kills and a trio of aces. Ndidi Ibe led all Hawks with eight blocks, adding 13 kills.
Against UMES, Erica Nish led Utah Valley with nine kills and a pair of blocks. Setter Brookelyn Hall had 29 assists, seven kills and three blocks, while Stringham also had seven kills and three blocks.
Debora Araujo finished with 14 kills, six digs and three blocks for the Roadrunners. Molly O'Hagan had 10 kills and five blocks, while Kelsee Sawyer had eight kills and three blocks.

Balanced Attack Leads Texas-Pan American to 3-0 Win
NORFOLK, Va. - Five players had at least five kills on the night to lead Texas-Pan American to a 3-0 victory over the Norfolk State volleyball team Friday during the first day of the Spartan Invitational at Joseph Echols Hall.
The Broncs hit .289 for the match to sweep the Spartans, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16, and improve to 4-10 on the year. NSU dropped to 2-13 overall.
Senior Charlotte Armstead led all players with nine kills and hit .316, while junior Goda Jankauskaite added seven kills. On the other side, Michelle McNamee posted eight kills for the Broncs, while Diara Reynolds and Maria Kliefoth each tallied seven.
Redshirt sophomore Noelle Eagles had a team-high 11 digs for NSU, while freshman Darcy Moore posted 28 assists.
Haley Durham and Nycole Masaki had six and five kills, respectively, for Texas-Pan American, while Juri Franzen led all players with 14 digs. Masaki also handed out 33 assists on the night.
