The Savannah State University athletics department announced today that Schannon Gamble is relieved of her duties as head volleyball coach, effective immediately.
"At this time, we felt that we needed to go in a different direction for the well-being of the volleyball program," said SSU director of athletics Sterling Steward, Jr. "We wish Coach Gamble the best in her future endeavors."
Gamble, who was in her second season as head volleyball coach, accumulated a 0-43 overall record while at SSU. In 2011, the team finished 0-27, and midway through the 2012 season, the Lady Tigers are currently 0-16.
Assistant coach Jolanta Graham will serve has interim head coach, while assistant softball coach Kenya Peters will come aboard as assistant coach for the duration of the 2012 season.
Gamble came to Savannah State from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Prior to Pennsylvania, Gamble worked for North Carolina Central University where she earned a master's degree in Leadership.
