American Sweeps Coppin State, 3-0

Ariel Richard had eight kills and nine digs, but American used a dominating blocking performance to defeat Coppin State 25-11, 25-14, 25-18 on Wednesday at Bender Arena.

Morgan Hendrix had nine blocks to lead American, which out-blocked Coppin State 14-1. American also hit .305 as a team, while Coppin State was limited to a -.050 hitting percentage.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Coppin State and dropped its overall record to 4-7 on the season. American improved to 7-5 with the victory.

Coppin State also received six kills from Cindy Okpegbue and four kills from Denali Sturgeon. Gabrielle Otero added 10 digs and Chelsee Sauni had 20 assists for the Eagles.

Hendrix also paced the American offense with eight kills, while Kristyna Lindovska added six kills.

American jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first set and never looked back on its way to a 25-11 win in the first set.

Coppin State held a 9-8 lead in the second set before American reeled off a 13-2 run on its way to posting a 25-14 victory.

American raced out to a 9-3 lead in the third set before Coppin State rallied to tie the score at 16-16. American regained the lead with a 4-0 run and completed the sweep with a 25-18 victory in the third set.
