Cindy Okpegbue and Ariel Richard each had 10 kills, but Loyola (Md.) defeated Coppin State 26-24, 27-25, 25-18 in a non-conference match on Wednesday at Reitz Arena.
Okpegbue had 10 kills in 22 attempts and posted a .409 hitting percentage to pace the Eagles offense. Richard had 10 kills, five digs and a block.
Coppin State (2-6) hit .160 for the match, but Loyola hit .265 as a team and had 54 digs compared to 40 for the Eagles.
Faye Lukas had 20 kills and six digs for Loyola (8-4) as the Greyhounds extended their winning streak to four straight. Jac Bullock added 11 kills for Loyola and Lauren Andersen had 39 assists.
Coppin State also received 25 assists from Chelsee Sauni and a match-high 18 digs from Gabrielle Otero.
Coppin State led 15-10 in the first set before the Greyhounds rallied. Loyola took a 24-23 lead, but Kandace Thomas tied the match at 24-24 with a kill. But the Greyhounds got a kill from Mindy Maloney and a Coppin State attack error to close out the set.
The second set was tied 24-24 and the Eagles took a 25-24 lead on a kill from Okpegbue, but a CSU attack error tied the match at 25-25. The Greyhounds then captured the second set on back-to-back kills from Lukas.
Loyola jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the third set and then held off a Coppin State charge to complete the three-set sweep.
