Senior Krysta Gardner came within one service ace of a triple-double with 21 kills and 11 digs and nine aces as she led the Maroon team to a 3-2 (25-18,20-25,23-25,25-17,175-15) victory over the Gold in a Bethune-Cookman intrasquad match Sunday afternoon.
Teamed with four freshmen and a student assistant coach, Gardner rallied her team with five kills in the fifth set. Freshmen Delicia Pierre added 11 kills for the Maroon squad, setter Monica Lowe posted 39 assists and 16 digs, Jordan Murray ten blocks and Jasmine Evans eight kills and nine digs.
For the Gold, freshmen Destiny Hudson had a team-high 19 kills while senior Janeen Davis double-doubled with 15 kills and 13 assists. Setter Aubrianna Curtis had 43 assists and 11 digs.
B-CU opens the season Friday against Charlotte in the East Carolina tournament in Greenville, N.C.
