MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

Savannah State's Madison Hedderly earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Delaware State's Casey Beighley was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Amber Hallman of Savannah State earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Hedderly (1B/P, 5-10, Jr., Dublin, Ohio) hit .500 in 12 appearances with one home run, a double and four RBI to aid the Lady Tigers in three victories which clinched the MEAC southern divisional title. The junior was 3-for-4 with a double and an assist in a 7-0 victory against South Carolina State. Hedderly also pitched 10 innings during the series and tallied a 0.70 ERA, allowing one run with 12 strikeouts.


Beighley (P, 5-5, Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.) was 1-0 last week with a 0.00 ERA in seven innings for the Lady Hornets. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, the senior pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out a career-high 10 batters.

Hallman (3B, 5-6, Fr., Kennesaw, Georgia) was 5-for-9 (.556) with one triple and four runs in three games last week.  She added four putouts and five assists for the Lady Tigers.

Other Top Performers:

Nicole Boggs (CSU) batted .500 with two doubles and four RBI in three games.

Kathy Cortez (NSU) hit .750 (3-for-4) with one run in a 4-0 win against Hampton.

Tiffany Davies (SSU) allowed one run and earned a 0.64 ERA in 11.0 innings for the Lady Tigers.

Ashira Dobison (NCAT) allowed 11 hits and struck out 18 of 95 batters in 25.1 innings to earn a 1.93 ERA last week.

Bria Green (DSU) was 2-for-4 with three runs in a 10-1 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jailynn Jackson (Hampton) pitched 10.0 innings, allowing five hits and striking out 13 batters for the Lady Pirates.

Tranea Jones (NCAT) hit .667 with one home run and one double in a 6-0 win over North Carolina Central.

Breanne Parr (DSU) was 6-for-11 (.545) with one home run, one triple, one double and four RBI in three Lady Hornet victories.

Jamie Schulle (NSU) recorded a 1.75 ERA, allowing 12 hits and six walks in 16.0 innings.

Haley Ward (NSU) batted .500 (1-for-2) with a run in a 6-3 win over Hampton.

Margaret Wilkins (Hampton) hit .667 with one triple, one double and two RBI in five Lady Pirate games.
