The defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's tennis champion South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs will travel to the sunshine state for the third consecutive year to take on the University of Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tennis Championship Friday May 11, the NCAA Committee announced on Tuesday afternoon from Indianapolis.
The University of Florida was chosen as one of 16 hosts of their respective NCAA First and Second Round Championship matches, with the running from May 11 to 13 at UF's Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
The South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (19-0) will face the defending national champion No.2 ranked Lady Gators of Florida (21-1), who received the second seed in the 64-team draw, Friday May 11 in the First Round contest beginning at 2 p.m.
It will be the fourth-ever meeting between Florida Lady Gators and the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs, which met in the first round of the 2006, 2010, and 2011 NCAA Tournament, with the Gators taking the 4-0 victory in Gainesville in each of them.
South Carolina State women's team is making its eighth straight appearance of the NCAA Championships, while The Florida women's team is making its 30th appearance, of the 31-year history, missing only the 1986 event. The Lady Gators won NCAA team titles in 1992, 1996, 1998, 2003 and 2011 and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals 20 times in the last 24 years.
On the men's side, SEC Champion Georgia (23-2) will meet South Carolina State for the second time in school history.
The Bulldogs (20-2) winners of the eight of the last nine Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's championship will take on the No.2 ranked Georgia Bulldogs who received the second seed overall in the NCAA draw and the top seed in the Georgia regional. This is the second meeting between the two schools since 2008, with Georgia defeating SC State 4-0, in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs will play Georgia Saturday May 12 at 12 noon. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, Athens Ga.
