The three-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champion Bethune-Cookman Wildcats learned their destination late on Sunday during the NCAA Softball Championships Selection Show, but will put a new pin in the map this upcoming weekend. The Wildcats (30-29) learned that they have been tabbed in the College Station, Texas Regional, paired with Texas State (38-15), LSU (34-22), and will open play Friday at 7:00 p.m. CST with No. 8 seed Texas A&M (39-16).
"We weren't really too concerned with where we were going, we're just happy to be in the tournament," said Head Coach Chris Cochran. "It will be a good experience for us to go someplace different, because the last two years we've gone to Gainesville. "
The eighth-seeded Aggies finished as the fourth-ranked team in the Big 12 Conference; also the fourth Regional host from the conference. TAMU wrapped the season on a six-game winning streak with sweeps of Boise State and Kansas.
The Wildcats earned their third straight NCAA Regional appearance, and ninth overall, as the MEAC automatic qualifier, after winning their third consecutive conference title with four straight wins in MEAC Softball Championship tournament.
B-CU has not faced any of the teams in the Regional during the 2012 season, but seniors Cesley Tafoya and Sabrina Ferguson had a glimpse of what two of the Regional opponents have to offer. The Wildcats played three games versus Texas State in the 2009 Stetson Leadoff Classic, with a win of 8-3 and losses of 2-0 and 7-2. B-CU also faced Texas A&M in the 2009 FAU Parents' Weekend Classic, falling to the Aggies by a narrow 1-0 margin.
All games in the College Station Regional will be webcast live on ESPN3.
