Lady Rattlers Shutout Savannah State, 8-0

Florida A&M advanced to the semifinal round of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Tournament as the Lady Rattlers defeated Savannah State, 8-0  in six innings, Friday afternoon at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

FAMU tallied a game high nine hits and held Savannah State, the top seed in the southern division, to just one hit.  

Both Jasmin Donaldson and Kieifi Myrick tallied two hits each to lead the Lady Rattlers, while Madison Hedderly had the Lady Tigers only hit on the day.

Jennifer Lindsey (15-8) picked her up third MEAC Tourney win as she pitched six innings, giving up one hit and striking out two of the 19 batters she faced, while Hedderly (18-12) received the loss for the Lady Tigers as she pitched three innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs and striking out two.

FAMU grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as both Donaldson and Tera Gainer scored on a Genesis Lopez single. Lopez scored on a Lady Tiger infielder's error.

The Lady Rattlers pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the sixth for 8-0 win, invoking the eight-run after six innings of play.

SSU finishes the season with a 26-24 record, whereas FAMU raises their to record 27-28.

The Lady Pirates will face Hampton in a loser bracket semifinal, today at 6 p.m.   The Lady Pirates handed the Lady Rattlers their first loss of the 2012 MEAC Tourney last night.  Hampton fell into the loser's bracket with a 3-2 loss to Bethune-Cookman this afternoon.
