Florida A&M Falls Into Loser's Bracket With 15-6 Loss To Hampton

Hampton defeated Florida A&M, 15-6 in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Tournament, Thursday evening at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

FAMU finished the contest with six hits as Alyssa Weaver went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate, scoring two runs, while driving in two runs to lead the Lady Rattlers.

Hampton finished the contest with game high 12 hits, while the Lady Pirates had three players to finish with three hits apiece.

Jailynn Jackson (13-13) picked the win for the Lady Pirates as she pitched three and one-third innings, giving up five hits, five earned runs and striking out six in the 20 batters faced, while Whitney Robinson (7-10) received the loss as she gave up three earned runs in the four batters, she faced.

Hampton took a 13-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.

FAMU would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Weaver doubled to left center scoring both Jasmin Donaldson and Tenisha Dixon.  Then Brielle Gordon would ground out to the shortstop scoring Weaver, cutting the Lady Pirates' lead to 13-6.

Hampton scored two more runs in the top of the fifth innings for the 15-6 as Bianca Vallejo scored on FAMU errors, followed by a Carla Trimble single scoring Kerissa Burruel for the finale.

The Lady Pirates increased their lead to 24-31 as they advance to the semifinals and will face Bethune-Cookman in a 1 p.m. start, whereas FAMU lowers their record to 25-28  as they advance to the loser's bracket and will face Norfolk State in a 10 a.m. elimination game.
