Lady Hornets End Historic Regular Season In Style

Delaware State ended its record breaking regular season with victories over Monmouth (N.J.) and Albany (N.Y.) this week.


The Hornets posted a 7-0 victory at Monmouth on Thursday and wrapped up the 2012 regular season with a 4-3 home win over Albany today.
DSU has won a school-record 15 straight matches to end the regular season with a 15-2 overall record. In addition to the record-setting win streak, the Hornets also established a program high for wins in a season.

Delaware State also captured its first MEAC Northern Division title with a 5-0 mark this season.


In the Monmouth contest, the Hornets won each completed singles match in straight sets. Vanja Andonova posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4, while Kristina Aleksic was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in the No. 2 contest.
Ksenia Kozlova, Maja Banas and Cristina Andrade also cruised to singles victories vs. Monmouth. Kozlova was a 6-1, 6-1 winner in the No. 1 match. Banas took the No. 5 contest by 6-2, 6-3 scores; and Andrade came out on top at No. 6, outdueling her opponent 6-1, 6-3.

arina Sicic was ahead 5-0 in the first set of the No. 3 contest before the match was retired.


Banas and Kozlova teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Aleksic and Sicic were 8-4 winners in the No. 2 doubles match, while Andrade and Andonova took the No. 3 contest 8-0.


In the win over Albany, the Hornets split six singles matches and took two of three doubles contests to claim the win.

Andonova posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles for her 15th straight victory. She is now a school-record 15-1 this season. Andrade stretched her personal win streak to 14 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6. She is 14-2 in singles play this spring. The pair also teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Andonova has won 14 consecutive doubles contests, while Andrade has been victorious in 13 straight.

Kozlova was also a singles winner vs. Albany, topping her opponent 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 match.

Delaware State won the No. 2 doubles contest, with Aleksic and Sicic outlasting their opponents 9-7.
