Lady Bulldogs Finish Regular Season With A Perfect 16-0 Record
ORANGEBURG,SC-The South Carolina State women's tennis team secured their place in the record books, as the only tennis team to finish the regular season with a perfect 16-0 record. The Lady Bulldogs won in dominating form defeating East Carolina 7-0, Friday at SCSU Tennis Courts.
The Lady Bulldogs (16-0 overall, 4-0 MEAC) have dominated their opponents posting 112 wins and only 6 losses this season. The seven-time defending MEAC Champions extend their conference winning streak to 32, having not loss a conference match in seven consecutive years.
Senior Sabrina Mendez, a native of Spain closes out her career being the only Lady Bulldog in school history to remain undefeated at 33-0 in singles matches. Mendez is also undefeated in doubles play along with All-MEAC performer Suhaila Jad at 16-0 on the season.
In doubles action, SC State claimed the doubles point with a James/Craciun def. Zhang/Templo (8-3), and Jad/Mendez defeated Gray/Wanko, 8-6. ECU's Collins Natalie Collins/Renata Bakeivo earned victory point 8-5 over Khatcei/Renata Bakevia.
Senior's Sabrina Mendez (def. Zhang 6-3, 6-0) and Suhaila Jad (def. Natalie Collins, 6-3, 6-3) led the way in singles victories on the day. Sophomore AKilah James def. Renata Bakeva 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot, while junior Maria Craciun dominated Neena Wanko, 6-2, 6-1.
