FARMVILLE, Va. - Hampton University senior guard Darrion Pellum was named First Team All-State in the University Division, the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) announced on Tuesday.
Pellum (Hampton, Va.), a First Team All-MEAC selection, led both the team and the conference in scoring this season with 18.3 points per game. He had 30 double-digit scoring efforts this season, including 14 20-point games and three 30-point games.
His career high of 36 points came on Jan. 16 at Morgan State; Pellum also scored 33 points against Longwood on Dec. 30 and against Maryland Eastern Shore on Feb. 15.
Pellum shot 36.2 percent (196-for-542) from the floor on the season and hit 75.5 percent (139-for-184) of his free throws. He averaged 19.7 points per game in the MEAC Tournament as the Pirates advanced to the semifinals against Bethune-Cookman.
He also averaged 38.5 minutes per game this season, tops in the MEAC.
Mike Scott of Virginia was named VaSID University Division Player of the Year, while Anthony Evans of Norfolk State was named Coach of the Year. Richmond's Kendall Anthony was named VaSID Rookie of the Year.
Joining Pellum on the VaSID First Team are Longwood's Antwan Carter, Norfolk State's Kyle O'Quinn, George Mason's Ryan Pearson and Scott.
