BETHUNE-COOKMAN TO TAKE ON FLORIDA A&M ON ESPNU

The defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball champion Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats will take on the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers during a nationally televised broadcast Friday May 4 on ESPNU. The game will air live from the FAMU softball complex in Tallahassee, Fla. beginning at 3 p.m. EST.

The broadcast marks the seventh consecutive season the MEAC has televised a softball game on the college sports network.

Bethune-Cookman (25-23) is currently 9-0 in MEAC play. Junior Michelle Banuelos-Smith leads the Lady Wildcats with six homeruns, 18 doubles, 30 runs and 31 RBI. In 141 appearances this season, Banuelos-Smith has 51 hits and a .362 batting average. Sophomore Shanel Tolbert is 24-18 with a 3.22 ERA in 260.2 innings.

The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers are 18-26 overall and 4-4 in MEAC play. Jasmine Donaldson leads the team with a .391 batting average, including 28 runs, nine RBI in addition to a conference leading 21 stolen bases. Jennifer Lindsey, the reigning MEAC Pitcher of the Week, is 8-8 this season with a 2.57 ERA in 109.0 innings.

The 2012 MEAC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 10-12 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, in Ormond Beach, Florida.  The top four teams in each division will compete against one another in the double elimination tournament.
