MEAC ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL WEEKLY HONORS

Delaware State senior Jordan Reid earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Paige Arnold of Coppin State was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State's Haley Ward earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Reid (OF, 5-8, Sr., Accokeek, Md.) hit .500 in eight appearances with one homerun, a double and four RBI to aid the Lady Hornets to a 3-0 mark last week.  In the third game of the series against Hampton, Reid batted .750 (3-of-4) , stole one base and tallied three putouts defensively from the outfield.

Arnold (P, 57, Sr., Detroit, Mich.) posted a 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA last week. In the first game against Maryland Eastern Shore, Arnold pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 batters while only walking one.  For the week, she allowed four hits, no earned runs, walked three and struck out 23 of 54 batters. 

Ward (OF, 5-7, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) batted .667 (6-for-9) with three doubles and two RBI in two games for the Spartans last week. The rookie was a perfect 5-for-5 and tied a school record with three doubles in one game against North Carolina Central.  Defensively, the outfielder also added two putouts.

Other Top Performers:

Michelle Banuelos-Smith (BCU) hit .417 with two doubles and six RBI in four games last week.

Cember Carmichael (NCCU) was 3-for-3 with one double in a 6-3 loss to Norfolk State.

Emily DeJesus (CSU) was 4-for-10 with one triple, one double and two RBI in three games for the Lady Eagles.

Ashira Dobison (NCAT) posted a 2.45 ERA while striking out 15 batters in three games for the Lady Aggies.

Bria Green (DSU)
was 5-for-10 with one double and four RBI in three victories last week.

Amber Hallman (SSU) combined for two homeruns, and three RBI with four hits to aid the Lady Tigers to a 2-1 record against Florida A&M.

Madison Hedderly (SSU) recorded a 0.00 ERA with four strikeouts in a 2-0 win against Florida A&M.

Juanita Jernigan (NCAT) hit a walk-off single against South Carolina State to lead the Lady Aggies to the 4-3 win.

Jennifer Lindsey (FAMU) was 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in wins against Florida Gulf Coast and Savannah State.

Rachel Meagley (DSU) was 3-0 last week with a 0.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts and two walks in 9.0 innings.

Liz Riley (NSU) earned the win with a 0.00 ERA in seven innings against North Carolina Central.

Whitney Robinson (FAMU) hit .667 with two homeruns and two RBI in a 3-2 win against Savannah State.

Calesha Shelley (B-CU) was 4-for-4 in a 10-2 against North Carolina Central. 

Katherine Stewart (SSU) posted one homerun and two RBI in a 6-4 win against Florida A&M.

Shanel Tolbert (BCU) was 3-1 last week with a 4.33 ERA for the Lady Wildcats.
