Frank Takes National Division I Steals Title

Bethune-Cookman University senior redshirt guard Demetria Frank is the NCAA Women's Division I national steals leader for the 2011-2012 season.

In the season's final stat report, Frank averaged 4.25 steals per game, edging Quinnipiac's Felicia Barron (4.16) and Selina Mann of Mt. St. Mary's (3.97).

Frank concluded her B-CU career as the program's all-time leader in steals (422) and free throws (572) and second on the all-time scoring list with 1,567 points. Upon updates from the NCAA, Frank is expected to finish in the top 25 on the all-time Division I steals list.

"This cements Demetria's legacy as one of the greatest players to wear a Bethune-Cookman uniform," said Head Coach Vanessa Blair. "It's been a privilege to coach her these past few years and our entire program wishes her the best in her post-basketball efforts."

A 4.0 student, Frank has already earned her Bachelor's degree and is currently working on her Master's.

She joins two other former B-CU players - Rosina Pearson (18.5 rebounds per game in 1985) and Gwen Davis (111 3-pointers in 1988) who have won national statistical season champions.

The NCAA will award plaques to Frank and B-CU in recognition of the achievement. B-CU finished 10-19 in 2011-12, falling to Norfolk State in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.
